The old parts that came out of the car. I was told by the previous owner all was origainal and it stunned me when we pulled the clutch and it had a made in italy stamp on it. It was manufactured by Valeo and I guess they did alot of clutches for Ford in the 80'S I was expecting to see Ford parts but it seems original there were no witness marks where anything had been aprt before we also changed the rear main seal while we were there.Name: flywheel stamp original.jpg

I had some spare time on Sunday to go to the shop I had been wanting to pull the seats and carpet to go on a hunting expedition, in the spirit of deer season and all, to see if I had my build sheet and was curious as to how the floors really were in this car. stunned is all I can say here is some pics let me know what you all think.Name: drivers front floor.jpg

as I had expected with the original clutch still in the car after 144000 miles I knew this thing was never drove hard the floorpans underneath looked incredible but i was blown away at the inside. 0 cracks on back of drivers seat mount and really 0 rust on any of it some slight discoloration but that is it the Factory sound deadner is not even cracked up. The seat tracks are all perfect and the seats still have plastic at the bottom where they were tore off at the dealer. I think I found a Keeper and yes here is the build sheet it was a happy hunting day for us here.Name: build sheet 1.jpg

The other thing I found intresting is the metal plate the runs across the back side of the drivers seat there was not one of these on my RS I do not believe it has been a day or two since I did that one but was wondering if this was something McLaren riveted in because they knew of the problem already with these cars getting drove hard and the floor pan cracking? if you look at the passenger rear there is not that piece or maybe something they added at the factory. They may all have them I just noticed looking at the pictures that piece.Name: drivers rear floor.jpg

Kendal, I did not realize that. My red one had the floors welded up where they had cracked so that is probably the reason it was gone in that car.. Before that the last one I owned was 1993 so I remember some stuff but am having fun relearning a lot like the Valeo clutch thing, that shocked me it was not ford, but I guess most of the clutches are Valeo as someone posted. Either way it is nice to work on one that has never been opened up before and all stuff is as it left the for factory.

It still has the original Kenwood KRC-6000 in it found the drivers door had been changed at some point in its life. I Got the sail panels off and both of the quarter window covers off pulled. The headlights, tail lights and grill and found I would have help on Sunday. I then started in on the engine pulling the upper intake radiator fan and shroud. All front accessories, fuel rails and injectors. I got all the wiring disconnected with cap and wires out.

Sunday morning it was engine day met with my friend Rusty and got the car jacked up and on the berthing blocks and got the exhaust out of the way. Pulled the drive shaft and drained the trans disconnected motor mounts and disconnected all other wiring. Hooked up the chains grabbed the forklift with boom and pulled the motor trans in one unit. Once it was out of the car we broke the trans loose pulled the clutch and flywheel and put the motor on the engine stand. So after a four day weekend I have a roller. Name: image.jpg

All in all a very productive weekend and I am really excited. This car is unbelievably clean frame rails are perfect. Floorboards are clean enough to eat off of. The factory sound deadening isn't even cracked I found almost no rust in this car at all. There is a little under the hatch hinge on drivers side and a spot in the spare tire well both are surface only. I took a screw driver and no softness at all. I can't believe this car spent its entire life in Wisconsin. Strut towers are perfect and no rust underneath. I still have to get the dash out and steering column out then it is ready to go to the body shop. Thanks to Kendall I have the original ASC pieces for the front end that were damaged. I found a clean hood and will buy new inner fender wells and may have to buy a drivers side frame rail to make it right. The body guy seems to think he can fix the fender. I will be taking pictures at least every two days while it's at the body shop and will know more when it comes off the frame machine.

Ok a lot has happened in the last month. The heads went out to get done the motor has been broke down all looks great. We will rering and new bearing oil pump and reassemble. It is beautiful inside no wear at all. I have been slowly restoring all the accessories. Painting and refinishing everything. The car is at the body shop. Squared it all back up on the frame machine. Decided to replace inner fender skirts to the original kinds they could have been straightened but wouldn't look original. We found some dents and filler from a previous incident involving a motorcycle cops helmet on the a pillar in front and some repair work unfinished under the side skirt but it is getting cut out and new metal. There is 0 rust in this car it is amazing. Took the trans up to shop to have it gone through. It shifted great and gad no problems it was just with 148k on the clock and being as deep as I am and spending the money I am I felt I should have it gone through. The guy thought it was in perfect shape I decided to go ahead and change the synchro's just because they are generally a weak link. He refused to change the rail shaft bushing as it was perfect. The driveshaft had gotten new joints and had it balanced so it is right.here are some pictures of the progress to date. The first is the power steering pump before and after. Name: image.jpg
