Get Ready to Bid Farewell to the Iconic Shelby GT350

Production orders for the aftermarket-customized Mustang will end on December 31st

Shelby American, the brainchild of the late Carroll Shelby and a tour de force in the Ford aftermarket customizing arena, won over a new generation of fans with its limited-edition Shelby GT350 revival—a high-performance take on the Ford Mustang. The 45th Anniversary GT350 coupe was introduced in 2011, commemorating the original much-beloved 1965-67 GT350. While the company has added more options and body types in recent years, all good things must come to an end. Hence, Shelby has officially announced that it will stop taking orders for the GT350 on the last day of 2013.

According to the corresponding press release, the concept behind the new GT350 was simple: “to build a car that is light, nimble and powerful.” A “small block” 5.0-liter Ford Mustang GT served as the base, but “every aspect of the car is enhanced or replaced” to provide a truly distinctive driving experience. Each model year of the anniversary GT350 has been offered with the same three thrilling V8 engine options: a 440-horsepower naturally-aspirated powertrain, a supercharged 525-horsepower model, and a virtually unstoppable supercharged 624-horsepower option.

All other existing Shelby models will continue to be produced, including the Shelby GTS, GT500 Super Snake, and “hot hatch” Shelby Focus ST. However, a chapter of history is truly coming to a close for Mustang-lovers, although we have high hopes that another one is soon to begin.
