    Default Oil breather cap

    Hey guys

I've noticed lately my 1983 5.0GT has a fair bit of smoke coming from the hood when I stop moving. I opened the hood earlier and it looks as if it's all coming from my oil breather cap.

When I bought the car, it came with this cap, there was also a tiny hole drilled into the rocker cover.

I covered the hole over a a year ago and forgot all about it until I noticed more of this smoke recently.

Is it safe to take the breather cap off and replace it with a standard cap? Or is this breather cap important?

Whether or not you have a breather cap on one side of the engine, or the cap has a hose to the
air filter housing, the important thing is the other rocker cover needs to have a functional PCV
valve in it, connected to inlet manifold vacuum. The breather alone will give crankcase pressure
a place to go, but it's he PCV valve that pulls fresh air through the crankcase to purge the vapors.
