Too bad you missed out on this one. I did see another used one (the entire cluster) for sale on ebay recently.

I seen that but...$185 for a gauge? Maybe I'll just stick with the 85 MPH, lol.

you can get a white gauge lay over that will give you a few more MPH, it uses the dead space past 85 MPH

May I suggest just switching to aftermarket gauges that are accurate?

If you want the factory look you can either go with a Ford Motorsport unit, SSP "Certified Calibration" speedo, or the speedo from an SVO. All three are going to be expensive ($150-200) and the SVO gauge has numbers up to 85 and then hash marks up to 140, but they will give you a clean factory look.

Otherwise, aftermarket gauges or gauge overlay's are your other options. Aftermarket gauges (like Auto Meter) will be expensive as well, and if you only change the speedo it will look strange. The most cost effective option would be some gauge overlays, I'm just not sure what is involved with putting a 140mph overlay over your existing 85mph unit, in terms of it reading correctly? I think you would have to change the speedo gear to make it read right, but I'm not 100% on that.

Basically you have options, it just depends on what look you want and how much money you feel like investing. Personally I like the 85mph unit because its correct and its kinda funny that I can bury the needle on the highway without really speeding. Good luck!

That's a good question Mike. Does anyone know if you can get the white face overlays to read correctly?

You'd have to send your speedo off to be re-calibrated, so it would likely be cheaper just to buy one of the 140mph speedos out there, they pop up all the time, figure you'll spend $100-200 as Mike mentioned, and there are more than just the SSP and Ford racing models out there, a few companies at one time or another had deals going on 140 speedo's, they basically just re-printed the front and re-calibrated a standard speedo (PPI did it, I believe FoxResto does it sometimes, etc).

You'll likely spend more for a good aftermarket speedo, an AutoMeter will run you $100-200 + the cost of the sender, and then you have to figure out how to make it fit in the hole in the dash.

    There is also the BBK 170mph speedo, but it's very rare;

    I've been looking for a 79/82 140 speedo for a long time.

The last one I saw went for $350+ on ebay.

The early car speedos are much harder to find as (IIRC) they were only available in SSP cars, I don't think FRPP ever sold those to the public and I don't recall if the 3rd party guys ever did re-pops of them. You may want to shoot PPI an email, it's only been a few months since they took down their re-printed 140 speedos, I don't recall if they did the early speedos or not, but they may be able to point you in the right direction.

No idea, but I don't see why it wouldn't be, at least out to any 'normal' speeds (ie it may lose something at 160-170). The speedo is pretty simple from a mechanical aspect.

For 1979-1982 style there was also a "Ford Motorsport" 140 MPH speedometer but
they seem be a rarer animal than the "Certified Calibration" (SSP) speedometer.

I did something like this. Definitely better than factory, IMO.

Edit: Actually, I didn't do something like this, this is my gauge cluster, this is what I did LOL. Works great, definitely way more accurate than the factory stuff, and it's all plug&play, electronic sensors for everything.

^^^what he said. The factory stuff sucks for accuracy, I did something very similar except most of mine is mechanical.

Probably cost more than the $100-200 that replacing the speedo would cost.

Yea, I've got like $530 in the gauges, but that's because the speedo cost $230 by itself. I had actually purchased them for another project, and when that car got totalled, I repurposed them for the Capri.

Toll Road 130 from Austin to San Antonio is 85mph. There are many places that are 75mph, as well.

I was checking them gauges out. It appears you also have to buy the sending units for most of them. Did I see that right?

Shouldn't have to. Everything I bought works with the factory stuff, or comes with sending units. I tied the speedo into a factory VSS sensor for the T5. Do the 2 mile calibration and it works great. The water temp and oil pressure gauges came with sending units.

    What He said! ^^^^

If your Mustang doesn't have the VSS sensor you can buy the Autometer one or pick one up from EFI Mustang and should be able to do what Rob mentioned above.

I'm digging the Dakota Digital setup, well I'd dig it a lot more without the faux carbon fiber face, but I could probably live with it. Comes with everything, but a bit more money ($750'ish) than the Autometer setup Rob (and others) described, the few extra's you get probably aren't worth the $200'ish difference.

Rob, you say this is in your '84 Capri? What does it look like with the cover on? Did you have to do any mods to get the gauges to fit?
Edit: Just wanted to add another question.
Does this eliminate some of the wiring from the Printed Circuit?
