    Default What's a 4eyed Saleen body kit + worth?

Long story short, this car is trashed. Extensive rust and hail damage. I'm thinking about parting the Saleen stuff as a kit, but don't know for sure exactly what I have. Obviously everything is used, but overall not bad shape for the age. I've heard some crazy #'s as to what the body kit might be worth, but really don't know for sure. So I would like any info on what exactly I have, and what it might be worth. Thanks

IMHO, it's hard to put a number on the parts. The shipping always plays into parts of this size and can easily break a deal.

The front spoiler and rear valance are the more difficult to obtain parts. The side skirts are a bit easier to find. The rarity of the parts will increase the values, but only to Saleen owners that really need them or to other's that want the authentic parts and won't settle for copies.

There was an NOS set on Ebay for the longest time that included all 4 pieces and the stripe kit and I believe the BIN price was around $1300. I am not sure if it ever sold or not, but it was listed for a long time.
I would recommend coming up with what you think the parts are worth and posting an ad here, Ebay, Craigslist, or where ever you want and see what happens. If they sell immediately you priced them either really well or too low. If they don't sell quick then you can always drop your price until they do.

    Good Luck!

You should buy the 85 in Colorado and put the ground effects on it.

Thanks for the input . I think I might have to try to raise some money for that 85. I had seen it for sale, and did not even think about that it might be still.

Seriously, that's a great idea. Buy that 85 and add these parts and wheels. The original 85 body kits were fiberglass and had a 3 piece front spoiler. They also had small rear spats instead of a full rear valance. Those are the kits worth the big money. Your kit appears to be 1986 style urethane. The one piece front spoilers like yours can be found for $300. The side skirts go for $100 each. The rear valance around $250. The 15" AREs 4 lug go for $200-$300 a set. Even though they are not original, I'd love to see that 85 real Saleen wearing this stuff!

If I can make the 85 happen, I'm going to. I've sent him a PM, just waiting on a response.

Thanks Tom, you had some useful information.

$200 front, $200 rear, $200 skirts, $150 wing (it's a later model 87+ with the brake light). That would be my starting point. Wheels I am not sure since they aren't correct, maybe $400.

Please do not offer to sell or buy parts in this thread or anywhere else in the Saleen subforum. I left this thread here so as to give some technical input to the value of original parts for 1984-1986 Saleens. Selling/buying of parts should be done through the classifieds. Thanks.

I feel like I must have missed something....

But anyway that 85 just wasn't in the cards at the moment. I'll find somewhere to make good use of this stuff, it's not gonna be for sale. 4 eyed Saleens are just to damn good looking to not aspire to have at least a look alike.

So I've got the kit off the car now, and was wondering about the info stamped on the front air dam. Does the # have anything to do with what car it came off of? Should it say Ford somewhere?

No there won't be a "Ford" stamp on the Saleen air dams. They didn't engrave or stamp any numbers on the inside of the air dam that would have ties to any Saleen. Just part numbers, the word Saleen and maybe a date. Some of the earlier air dams had the D.H. buck markings on it but not the 86 air dams. I think they may have the word "Mustang" on them, I'll have to check the inside of my air dam and rear valance. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input BM. Glad to see you got what you needed. I probably should have got rid of this stuff to you , I ended up with an 83 GT, and I don't think it needs it.

No biggie. Can you post up some pictures of the inside stampings on the rear Valance? Also if you can, some additional pictures of the where the double sided tape was mounted on the inside. MY Valance seems to have a small round stamp that looks like it says DH Buck on it. I mocked it up to my Stang to get a feel on how to install it but it seems like it has "ridges" on the inside left and right of the valance where it mounts to the quarter panel. Does yours have that as well? During the mock up it seemed like those "ridges" wouldn't let it mount properly.

Here are some pictures of my Valance for reference.
