Joe, thanks for the visual! It helps a lot! Never really thought of other ways to try to attenuate. Is that just regular fibreglass batt insulation?

Lately the last few times I've been out, I feel it's improved from the way it was but needs more. When the rpm is in that sweet spot for the drone I can feel it slightly through the floor pan. I'm hoping that working at the outlet end will help flows in the middle. The wisest would be to install something in the middle. The only other symptom of note is upon deceleration with engine only you get a hollow "popping" sound. Subdued but evident to me. And hey I could be overthinking all of this and it's not so bad.

With the other wheels on last week I went for an evening cruise on some open freeway. The difference between 60 mph and 70 mph where the rpm is over 3000 is noticeable. Too bad I can't drive 70 everywhere!

The car is running decent so far. Haven't had a chance to look at the choke again. Bonus is it looks like the rear pan leak has subsided Small issue is there looks to be something at the front. Haven't looked too close but I get a drip down to the sway bar.

Yup - and some steel wool. Then I tied everything tight with some fine steel wire (crisscrossed) in the first pic.

So, the car has been getting some driving done on it here and there. It's an enjoyable ride and gets a lot of looks while I am out. Even got a thumbs up from a newer Shelby GT350 passing me on the freeway.

Cruises real nice actually. The drone smooths out as I had mentioned at just around 3K RPM. Looking at the odometer and I have put on 1800 km this summer Creeping up to the equivalent of 40,000 miles

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...jzlf3.jpg.html

I picked up some aluminum rim cleaner and spent a little time on the ten holes. I had never done anything to them after I picked them up off a local Foxbody group. They are in really nice shape and they came out quite bright!

I went to one of my favorite places overlooking downtown recently. I was about 15 minutes late to get the sun angle I wanted but still some nice shots.

Joe, I am going to try this. I have to scrounge up some insulation. I though I at least had some scraps around but I guess I tossed it. For now it's not the end of the world, but I am curious as to what I can do with different types of dampening. Lengths, density etc. will all have an affect to a degree. I honestly think what I think I hear in the driver's seat may not be what others hear. I does humm through an underpass though!

Today I noted the rear part of the oil pan is NOT leaking. Well, at least not dripping.

I need a new drain pan plug gasket with integral o-ring though. I've been fighting with this minor thing for a while and thought I had it solved. Wrong.

I also investigated the small leak at the front. From what I could see it was the oil pressure sender fitting dripping onto the fuel line onto the swaybar to the floor. That or at least contributing to what I am seeing on the swaybar. I pulled the sender and the adaptor off, cleaned them up, applied new tape and sealant and reinstalled.

Hopefully this will at least fix one thing and make it easier to identify anything else that may be weeping or leaking. I could not see anything else upon close inspection.

Fall is here and not sure how much driving will take place for the rest of the year. The car hasn't been out hardly this month

I needed the space at home to work on my son's car so I have this car parked in a garage spot I rent just down my back lane. It's close enough that if I get the urge I could go out. It's been cool, rainy and drizzly for the last few weeks and I am not inclined to go out in the wet

No shows this year but I did get out with a new Mustang group on the Saturday of Labour Day weekend. They like to meet up on weekend evenings in the summer and then go out cruising later at night. I met up but didn't stay up late to go on their drive. There ended up being close to 20 cars there - of course mostly newer.

Met up with my mom and step dad one morning for breakfast on a Sunday morning (nice view from the table) and then went for a nice drive in the foothills outside the city.

Here is hoping I can get out once or twice more! At least this car has a working heater

You must live in Calgary, I’m jealous because our snow hasn’t left yet.

The good news is I’m working on the car again.

I haven't been able to get out much lately either. I'd still like to get a few more Kms on mine, but the weather is not looking good. That and the other work that needs to get done at home if it ever returns to warm dry weather. I had hoped to get down next week for the club meeting, but now have to go to Lethbridge that day to handle some issue with my Mom. We still have not been out together yet either like we hoped to do Darran. Where the heck did the summer go!

Darran, car looks great, and I love that noise-problem fix, Joe.

As far as getting back to work on mine, I have no idea. I now wear a back brace and compression gloves for most tasks done when outside of the house. I also use a walker to go any further than my mailbox. I am toying with the idea of selling my Ghia, but haven't decided on that, yet.

I had my Social Security Disability back in July, and have not received the ruling, yet. Too many things still out of my control, but the Ghia isn't costing me any money, well I just renewed registration for $4.00 for three more years. Winter is approaching, so the Ghia and all of the additional parts I accumulated over the years will have to wait "until next year", again, before I decide what to do with her.

I hate seeing her sitting by the side of the house, but I also don't want to sell her. Selfish, right? I can't help it.

Not selfish Craig. For some reason I get attached to my cars also and would have a hard time to let go. I could have easily sold my 82 GT when it was inop but sat on it for 11 years and am glad I did! It wasn't costing me anything either other than space. I hope "next year" is way better for you and you can at least pick away at your Ghia!

Sad weather we have had! We have been WELL below seasonal for weeks and actually had a foot of wet snow last week. Most of that has melted but more is expected Monday/Tuesday.

Farmers Almanac predicts a long cold winter and we just finished one of the longest I can recall...

Last weekend gave in to the reality of the season and the weather. I pulled batteries

It was a very short summer this year. I haven't admitted defeat yet on the weather, but don't have a lot of hope for warm days either. I have some painting to do on the house that looks like it will be waiting until next year now. I don't need to pull my battery being in a warm garage, but I will connect a maintenance charger to it. I actually installed a plug through the trunk floor that I can connect it to easily. I'll do an oil change once I know I'm not going to be driving it again for the winter.

Thanks for the encouraging words, Darran. I seem to be looking forward to "Next Year" quite a lot over the last several years. My back is not responding as was originally hoped, and the VA Medical Center is now looking at my neck and upper-back spine areas. Recently completed some additional testing and had some MRIs done, too. My previous neurosurgeon has moved on to another state, so the process has started over, AGAIN! Next step, appointments with the Neurological Surgical Center at the VA Medical Center. In fact, the MRIs and testing were done over two weeks ago, so I think I need to make some phone calls to see what is happening.

Well, we have had a turn in the weather since the last post

I managed to get the car out a few more times. With long working days and shorter days, daytime driving is harder to come by! No, I don't take it to work....

I posted this on a couple of Facebook groups but wanted to here also.

The car has been running good. I don't get out much with car guys and had an invite to a local cruising club - mainly newer cars - BBQ at a local shop that also does tunes and has a dyno. Not all went for the test but a decent turn out for the end of October!

Guess what? I'm not too shy to put the little V6 up there! $20 for two pulls.

    Love it! Thanks for sharing!

Ive been thinking about putting my worn out 86GT on a dyno before it lets go. See how much it’s making in spite of its worn parts challenges.

Default New parts for next year!

Always thinking about the next thing to do and planning for next summer buying some parts when they come available.

On top of making "glass packs" similar to what Joe did to try to tune the exhaust a little more I have the following to do. I received a box finally that shipped a month ago. Thanks to Canada Post rotating strikes! VintageAutoLiterature usually has some nice NOS parts on eBay so I saved by combining shipping!

    1. Fuel pump - I had noticed a small fuel leak that I had thought was the outlet hose. I think it is actually coming from the housing where it is pressed together. It only leaked when the car was cols and stopped after a minute. I used the pump that was on the car when we got it as I had test drove the car with it years ago.

This is the one that is on the car (image is from when we took the engine apart) and also the NOS one I received. Too bad the gasket is missing. No biggie though!

    http://i1337.photobucket.com/albums/...pspxkppzjc.jpg
    http://i1337.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3q0ff8o8.jpg

    2. Crankcase vent filter. I wouldn't have bought this on it's own but it was cheap enough to combine. It is smaller than the presumed aftermarket one on the car I reused. A detail no one would ever really see or care about in reality

    http://i1337.photobucket.com/albums/...psrtqmbt5n.jpg

    3. Emissions decal. With having to replace the hood I needed to replace the decal still. Another one of those that if you bought it and shipped it on it's own it almost wasn't worth it.

    http://i1337.photobucket.com/albums/...psazihitdp.jpg

    4. Alternator fan. Been keeping my eye out for a reasonably priced one. Again combining shipping helped

    http://i1337.photobucket.com/albums/...pstueggnjc.jpg

    5. Last piece and not sure if I will install. Same seller and the reason I jumped on much of the above. One of those parts you would likely never see again!

NOS formed heater hose. The parts books says not replaced and to improvise with bulk hose. To find the exact part is cool!

Wow, that's in fine fettle, Darran!

The European 2.8 2-bbl carb engine for that year made 135 flywheel bhp net at 5200 rpm, and 159 ft-lb at 3000 rpm.

    See https://www.automobile-catalog.com/c...8_v6_ghia.html

The USA 1979 Mustang 2.8 flywheel figures were 109 hp (SAE net) at 4800 rpm and 142 ft-lb at 2800

    See https://www.automobile-catalog.com/c..._2_8l_v-6.html

Compression ratio drop from Euro to Federal US Spec was from 9.2:1 to 8.7:1 originally.

The C3 transmission loss is greater than the manual SR4's of about 1.26, and from my research, 1.45 is typical.

    96 bhp at 4496 rpm --->139 hp

    131 lb-ft at 3641 rpm --->190 lb-ft

    That's quite a lot more than the 109 hp and 142 lb-ft.

The porting, igntion and carb detailing have worked a treat. Well done!

Amazing dyno results, Darran. And congratulations on the parts find, that is quite a haul, especially the heater hose.

A quick update on the items I bought to install.

    1. Fuel Pump - So it turned out the NOS pump I had bought did not work. I should have tested it out of the box but it did not create any suction when tested manually. I ended up purchasing another NOS (aftermarket) one that does work. Oh well, at least I didn't overpay. Reminder to check items or install soon so you have recourse with the seller.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...bln1r.jpg.html

    2. Crankcase breather - simple. Not that I needed this, but still kinda cool.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...qvyi8.jpg.html
    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...oxr5y.jpg.html

    3. Emissions decal. Installed per the initial measurements. The PN is almost the same as the original but must have been updated somewhere along the lines.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...cemmj.jpg.html

    4. Alternator fan - decided not to put this on yet. The pulley I have with the replicated Cadmium coating does not match so would stick out like a sore thumb.

I ended up having to replace another light socket. Not sure if these 79 bulb holders have a habit of bad metal tangs but had an intermittent rear passenger side brake/signal light out.

The glass pack experiment; while seemed good, I have blown a couple out while driving and lost them. Not sure if too much back pressure when until hard acceleration or whether they are too loose or deteriorate with the heat and exhaust flow (they went in snug). For now I have them out pending a new plan.

Oil pan leaks. The rear is not leaking any more. That is nice. I do appear to have a minor leak on the front part of the pan near the seal. Not huge but it seems to create a minor mess underneath after driving some time.
