Thanks for the non-help post Dave! I guess I am sticking with the SEM!

    Default More weekend plugging...

So I only had this afternoon this weekend to putz around. I had many ideas of what I should do and was actually kind of random, jumping around doing many small things but they added up!

Where I left off after putting in the engine last week, I hadn't done up and torqued the flywheel to the convertor or the motor mount bolts.

I got that done but then needed to do the kick down linkage and starter. There was a really hard to get to tranny cooler line bracket on the side of the engine etc. underneath to do and then I did some general clean up too

I don't think I really need to crawl under here again...unless something leaks on start up!

    Default Back on top.

Finishing underneath lead me up top to continue connecting more things back to the engine; vacuum lines, alternator wiring, PS lines, coil and harnesses.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...egfsi.jpg.html

That lead me to get the radiator cleaned up and in plus the rad hoses and trans cooler lines done up. And then that got me to the hood latch hardware and getting the hood close to lined up and putting the bumper on. Should be ready for the cover install later.

Default Speaking of the front cover...

Speaking of the front cover... I realized a little while ago that I needed to make sure I had a pair of the side marker frames that screw to the sides of the header.

I never had them on the original cover but I had picked a pair and had a pair on an '84 header I have in my shed.

Wouldn't you know, one of each pair were cracked! The good thing, I had one good left and right! The bad? They changed along the way! One was translucent, the other was opaque! Both were sprayed at some timer in their life... one blue, one white. I suppose I could have looked around for some NOS or some unpainted one but...meh. Painting them will look good too And what do you know? I had some orange paint laying around!

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...mx7r9.jpg.html

With those on, I managed to shoe horn the header into the cover. Without damage! Now it just needs riveting

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...xpguj.jpg.html

So I will put the buckets, lights and frames on next time. Then rivet it. Oh yeah, then my little fixes I need to do

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's been a slow go these last weeks. I've been working too much and even Saturdays to keep up. That hasn't left much time to commit to the garage. That and winter refuses to end and we still had more snow today so that is not inspiring either!

I did commit and get the "last" of the spraying done with doing the lower rockers.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...bimbh.jpg.html

While I had the paint and clear mixed I did my other "touch ups" which weren't too bad this go round. Not sure how I ended up with a couple of spots like this. Poor masking apparently!

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...dloc3.jpg.html

With the spraying completed, I finally could unmask the entire car. Still not sure about the colour match between the door and the quarter. Maybe without the moulding on it's an optical illusion. Maybe it's the lighting or the angle.

Put the cowl and the trim back on. I put most of the front end back together so with my defects fixed should good to go on. I used Mike1157's trick with the 2 x 4's on the bumper and jacked the A-arms to get the shocks back into the onion heads. I'll had to set up to do an alignment later but all these little things add up.

    Default Junkyard score!

There was an '81 coupe in the junkyard here recently that I had grabbed some parts off of including the decent front end for a new spare!

One other sweet score was the nice condition positive battery cable! Thank you very much! The only reason it maybe wasn't cut like most is the car maybe came in with no battery? In my opinion, easily usable

Thanks for dropping by Craig All better from your surgery to get back at your car? The battery cable was super lucky I think! They cut anything these days to remove batteries when the cars come in. Just like they pop holes in pans and cut hoses to drain coolant.

Dave...Still cold and still snowing a bit the last few days and for the next week! This past weekend was the coldest Easter since the 1940's!! On Saturday the high temp was 15°C below the normal high. It got down close to -20°C on Saturday night! Two years ago I planted my vegetable garden the third week of April it had been such a nice end of winter. This year I'll be lucky to plant around the usual May long weekend with the amount of snow I have in my yard!

Last weekend I putzed a little. I had wanted to put the rocker molding on earlier but noticed a few rock chips so I cleaned it up and gave it a fresh spray.

I noticed this before and I wonder if this is an oddity but the front bolt hole and next retainer back seem to dip downward toward the front. IE: its not parallel with the door or rocker. Both sides. Must be a factory install thing.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...j359c.jpg.html

I also replaced a front signal bulb socket. I had had a small gremlin last time around and managed to get things working okay. The issue was the ground tang in the original socket was compromised and was causing an intermittent issue.

Salvaged socket, solder and some shrink wrap tube. Done and nice and bright! I could not find a socket the same as the ones that were on this early fox though. Does anyone really care when you can't see it?

The original is the smaller housing.

With the Easter long weekend here I was expecting to get some garage time in. The weather was cold and snowy as noted above. Too bad I got my first cold in close to a year and it was pretty good one that lasted the majority! On Sunday, I was a "little" better after finally breaking down to get some decongestants and some cough syrup.

My wife and I go away on vacation on Saturday and with spring around the corner (haha yeah right!), I needed to plug away if I want to be done by summer at my pace!

I dug the antenna out of the trunk that was removed at the body shop so long ago, fished it though, secured it and put the interior kick and scuff plated back in for the last time.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...xcng0.jpg.html

With the light socket repaired, I was finally ready to tackle the front cover and I managed to get it and the scoop on!

    Generally pleased with the outcome.

This wasn't the easiest task to do by yourself and there was a bunch of up and down.

I got the passenger side done first and it lined up really good!

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...pvvdx.jpg.html

The drivers side is a little challenged. I think this was the repop fender so it may have different tolerances It is lined up nicely after a bit of work on the outside. I may end up cheating it a hair to see if makes this less noticeable. Is it noticeable?

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...nga8l.jpg.html

This side also did not quite fit as snug as I thought it would. Maybe I could have massaged the hole locations to make them more of a innie versus what may be outies. Not badly noticeable but I think I'd see it every time...

Also you can see that the hood needs to go back toward the cowl a little. The passenger side adjusted good but the driver's side is out of adjustment on the hinge. It looks like there is a gap and it will go back to square up. I may need to slot the hole an eighth. I wonder if the hinge mount could have tweaked a hair when the hood was pushed over in the accident

Good to see you're approaching completion. I'm nearly done mine also, but this cold weather is holding me up. I need to move mine off the lift and into the other side of the garage to finish the corner balancing and alignment, but all the ice in the alley is too rough and slick to attempt it.

Are you hoping to have it ready for the AMAC show in June? I plan to take mine there for its debut to the club. It would be cool to have a couple of nice Foxes together there.

I heard they are changing it up this year. Doing away with tech, grouping of cars parked together etc. Making it more of a fun get together! If the stars align I will have two cars there this year

    Default Plugging continues!

We were away for a couple of weeks earlier in the month of April and yard work took priority yesterday. Today, I managed to get a rainy day in the garage and took advantage.

    Side mouldings back on!

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...mtscj.jpg.html

Splash shields back in! I ended up having to drill some new holes to match the original configuration for the 79 shield. Both of these newer fenders only had three fasteners around the wheel arch while the originals had five in total. Weird.

    Default Headliner V3

I had been detesting doing this once again. For whatever reason, I think I am doomed to failure on this home done headliner.

This is the same material I had used previously. New adhesive again. This is what the supplier of the PVC board had recommended long ago.

Also this time I had re-scuffed the entire board and used adhesion promotor. I also used the entire can of the spray glue as it stated two coats for extra strong bonds

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...nmjag.jpg.html

Another part of the strategy was to provide additional adhesion and fit in the corners. I used what I had available around that may hold fast. JB Weld I mixed up a batch and applied a thin layer in all of the four corners to hopefully hold it fast. It seemed the stress due to the stretch to fit the contour in the corners is where the failure started. Good luck to us

Complete with my really fancy weight system to hold the corners in and down for curing

Default A couple of new ideas!

So a couple of new things for fun today also.

I had liked the clear GTS headlight covers I put on my 82 GT and I had also picked up a set for this car but decided not to put them on previously. I pulled them out of the box and mocked them up. What do you think? Should I put them on or leave them off?

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...knfvc.jpg.html
    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...tpegq.jpg.html

This car also had a non-tinted windshield. Not even the top tint strip. I had picked up a Motorsport banner to try. Not a perfect install but I think it will last! Changes the look quite a bit. Blue looks good with the Tangerine.

JB Weld? That ought to hold those corners! I’ve used that 3M hs90 a lot in the past. I haven’t had any problems with it’s durability.

I’m either way with the light covers, so no help from me there.

You’re going to have this driving at just the right time. It looks really nice (again). Good job man.
