    Thumbs up The Buck Tag

Exactly where you said it should be!

This is really in the most obnoxious place you could imagine. From the under side, you can touch it but not get a good look at it. From the headlight bucket it is no better. You cannot get the right angle to see it at all through the grill either. To remove it you would have to first remove the bumper cover and headlight bar to get at the screw holding it. I just took a bunch of pictures from the two spots I could and hoped for the best: at arms reach, pretty much blind and barely being able to hold the camera right. These were the best I got:

    Looks to read:

    ZV 92 H 7 Q

    LBP C 02B(or 8?)

Note the number eight and possibly seven punched out of it. The corner was clipped too.

Default Trying to buy this for the car. What a nice dad!

We've talked about how much a forward facing hood scoop would look good on this car. It would be a shame (if I found another spare) to have to drill this one for it.

Well, sometimes you have to get lucky. I spotted this ad for an '82 GT hood scoop on Kijiji: http://alberta.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ529125033 $20!!

    82 mustang gt hood

    Date Listed 01-Oct-13
    Price $20.00
    Address Red Deer, AB, Canada
    View map
    Make Ford

Gt hood. No dents, needs paint. No hinges, just the hood.

It's an hour and a half away and not a big deal for that price. Now if the guy would just reply to my email again! Why do people post ads, only accept email and then not reply?

Come on!! Can't you imagine that painted Tangerine on this car?

Its a lucky week for tangerine owners looking for hoods I found a capri rs turbo hood with bulge scoop for only $50 for my tangerine car, almost as cool as your find :TU:
1979 tangerine capri, 40k miles, sn95 8.8, spindles, eibach v8 springs, caster camber plates, manual steering and brakes, Lincoln master cylinder, rebuilt 2.3t/t5 from 85 tbird, nothing much!

That is still a pretty good find! I would say the Capri one would be scarcer though!

I must say this was a pretty unexpected but well timed purchase! Super awesome that the guy drove it practically to me and wouldn't take an extra $20 I offered for gas. Interesting paint scheme on it. It needs to all be sanded and refinished but overall, really good shape.

Just a little rust under the front. Should be able to rid it of that no problem. It looks like the car was a silver one and the emission sticker said 5.0. Too bad no insulation pad; now that would have been sweet!

VERY COOL Buy! Maybe paint the scoop black for a little contrast? One question for you on the wheel choices... how is availability for the smaller tires any more? I was having a slight difficulty finding 15's, not even the 13 or 14" size.

When we get closer to any painting, I guess we will decide what to paint the scoop. Everything else is orange on the car currently, even the cowl grill which is odd as I don't recall that before on later years. Tempted right now to paint it body color like the rest.

That's an interesting question about tires. The PO had recently put new 13" tires on it. So I cant' really comment on availability. Me personally, I want to upgrade to 14" or 15" but my son's budget will determine that. At least the tires are in great shape and will definitely last a year or more!

I do remember a thread where they were talking about semi-performance 15" tires and the options there are and availability. http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...brand-opinions

    Default More small gift ideas

My son's 16th birthday is on the 22nd and I guess a $20 hood scoop isn't the best present plus he already knows about it. Call me a sucker or whatever. I'll call myself an "opportunist"

At a co-workers suggestion I drove an hour and a half to a bi-annual part swap meet. Who knows what you could find right? I was honestly dissapointed that I swear there was practically nothing for any fox body.

I did find a few cool tid-bits for the '79 to add to the gift pile:

The owners manual was missing so I found a decent one and also the '79 Mustang brochure that is scanned in the FEP library.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...06af1.jpg.html

I found this two page Road Test article for the '79 Mustang plus I thought the Tangerine Cobra was neat! Then I thought a hard copy of the entire 1979 shop manual might be good reading (yeah right! But maybe resourceful):

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...1e9ae.jpg.html

The 1979 Ford car color choice sample pamplet. Pictures don't do the samples justice! These are nice quality samples and colors! Boy does that Tangerine stick out and it says it was on the Pinto as well. It helped me remember when I was a small kid that our neighbors had a Tangerine Pinto

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...a567c.jpg.html
    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...edfa5.jpg.html

The last thing was a hood emblem mixed in with a bunch of other Ford stuff on a table. $5. Better than the starting to fade one on the car, but this will go on the new hood! Just a hint of fade in the red but the chrome is good.

    http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/82...fc66e.jpg.html

Like I said, there wasnt much for foxes. Lots of muscle car and earlier trim, engine and body stuff and obscure but nothing really fox. I saw a pair of 80+ grey armrests and I picked up a set of Marchal 750's with grey covers for $5 that came off a "Jeep"! Of course I did pick up a couple of small things for myself too. I'm "opportunistic"

I think he was quite surprised at his party last night when he opened the gift. He was looking through the brochure again this morning He was pretty proud showing some of his relatives the car too!

The ones on the car will suffice for now and anything else is on the wish list. We just passed on a set of turbines with mismatched front/back tires for $200 today. He want's the old Ronal's I used to have or something like them. I saw a set of ROH five spokes with decent rubber for $400 the other day but then we are really starting to get out of his budget now. We are going to bide our time and see what floats by on Kijiji and the like (I want to get a set of 14" wagon wheels myself )

He likes your car Dayne. Even the weld wheels are to his liking He follows the FEP facebook page and keeps me up to date.

They aren't my favorite I'll admit. I did see a NICE set of ten holes here for $80 but he is on the fence for them (which means he's not really interested)!

As stated the tires on it are new, so I think he'll just use them for now although he is worried jerks at school may take hubcaps or something.

I'm hoping he will keep the car pretty original. I hope he will bring it to a show or two with me next year. That will make it more fun! For what we'll have invested in this, he could afford another and modify it while keeping this as it is

    Cold weather is upon us

With so many things on the go this year, the one thing I never got to was proper heat in the garage. Turns out I don't have the correct wiring required in my garage to put in the 240V overhead unit I was going to do quick for this winter. Gas is another matter as well with the freezing temps. Space heaters didn't cut it well enough last winter. Before Christmas, I am going to get my dad's kerosene construction heater before he goes to Hawaii until April. That will heat it up in a hurry and then the others can maintain.

Definitely going to run the gas next summer!!

My son is itching to get working on it. Being more sensitive (or wussy) to the colder weather than I used to be doesn't motivate me the way it did before

Goals: Temporary heat! Engine out by the end of January, apart by the end of February and rebuilt and in by the end of June and running. Of course the hood etc. is in the scope along with other small stuff.

It was a nice 7500 watt max forced air heater that is going to get returned now.

Turns out I wasn't wired for 240V and permits and changing would have been a pain. Pretty expensive heat too. I'll upgrade in the future. I already have the new panel etc.

It was a nicer day today. I got the heater set up and working. Today wasn't a 'start pulling the engine' kind of day, but I thought I would get Jackson away from the video games to do something on his car today.

One thing he didn't like about the car was that it never came with the optional passenger side mirror. It does look off balance somehow with only one. We went to go look at a guy parting out a wrecked '80 a while ago and the car had the mirror. It even had the correct "79" on the regular non-"Objects are closer than they appear" glass So we decided to paint both this new weathered one and the drivers. Some sanding to rough up and remove the oxidation, a quick coat of primer and a few coats of SEM trim paint. We did the inner moldings as well as decided to do the wiper arms as they were easy to do.

    Default Rust? What rust?

While I had the mirror off I was surprised at how little rust this car has. It has no rust in the usual spots. Some cancer surface spots around from being left stored outdoors for years and typical wheel well rim on the backs but look at these pictures of the mirror opening and the drivers door bottom!

    Default Let the fun begin.

As stated in the beginning of my '82 thread, I'm learning as I go with a lot of things. This will be my first motor pull and rebuild, but a V6 should be an easy first choice! I fired up the heater and let it warm up as I shoveled snow (again). I had to wake up my son to get his butt moving, but we made a small dent in preparation of pulling this bad boy.

Draining fluids first. I don't think the coolant had been changed in quite a while judging by the color of what was at the bottom of the rad. That or it was DexCool mixed with a little Prestone. When we drained the oil it stunk like gasoline quite strongly. With the compression test results we got, I am not surprised!
