    Default Bell housings

    Greetings all,

My 82GT has the newer T-5 transmission and the 8.8 inch rear with I believe 3.08 gears. I'd like to eventually convert it back to the SROD 4-speed and the 7.5 for originality. Guess I'm a purist. There is a parts car nearby with the original drive train from the bell housing back to the rear wheels available. Owner wouldn't mind a swap with me. Might be a delay for that. Is the bell housing on the 82 with a 4-speed the same as five speed cars? Seems like it should be but better to ask first. Thanks.

I wouldn't do it, I don't see anything to be gained by installing the factory low po parts.

^ I agree. The T5 is light years ahead of the old SROD, in many ways. Same with the 8.8, who is gona know the difference, except you. I'd live with it.

If this 82 GT is going to sit in a museum somewhere and not get driven, then by all means swap it back. The 7.5" rear end is one thing I could live with...till it breaks! The SROD would have to go...the 2nd to 3rd gear transition just makes the car horrible to drive.

The locating holes for the front bearing retainer are different sizes from the SROD to the T-5 bellhousings. The T-5 bellhousings have a bigger centering hole.
