    Default What Heads and Cam?

I'm looking to do heads and a cam this winter but have no clue what to use and what a good combo for my car would be. Right now the car has long tube headers, full exhaust, Air Gap intake, edelbrock 600cfm carb, MDS Dizzy and a 8.8 with 373 gears the car is a 85 Capri 5 speed. Just looking to make it a little more fun the car will see the drag strip but will also be driven on the street on weekends.

Lots of choices...budget? I have the GT40p heads with minimal exhaust port work and an E303 cam in my 85 GT vert. I have been very happy with this setup given it is a weekend nice weather car.

I had Trick Flow Twisted Wedge 170 heads, and a Comp XE266HR on my last stock short block combo and it worked outstanding. Very easy, fun to drive combo that made alot of power.

1500$ is pushing it for aluminum heads, unless you can get used heads. 1000-1500$ just for heads, plus a cam, etc. I run GT40P heads and a cam, and am quite happy with it. It makes more power than street tires can handle. One thing that makes a huge difference is doing some tuning on what you have already. Have you done any jetting changes on that Edelbrock? Have you re-curved the timing in the distributor?

It was a 114,000 mile 89 5.0 HO short block, used Comp XE266HR cam, orignal lifters, new Twisted Wedge 170's bought new from Summit Racing on sale for $950, Performer RPM air gap, 650 Quick Fuel Hot Rod series double pumper, Ford Racing Shortie headers, off road X pipe, Flomaster Force II cat back, 114,000 mile 5.0 T5 out of the same donor car, 8.8 with 3.73's, Ebay upper & lower control arms, full length sub frame connectors. First time at the track it ran 7.83 1/8th mile, 12.36 @ 109 with slicks. A few weeks later I added 4.10 gears and a air bag in the right rear and ran a 7.69 at the local 1/8th mile track! Very, very streetable combo, mild idle, no loading up, etc. Drive it anywhere. This was in my full weight 82 Capri RS, PS, PB, AC still on the car, running through the orignal dual snorkle air cleaner!

Do the Eddy Rpm heads with 2.02 intake valves and 1.60 exhaust for good breathing and future upgrades and check your pvc. Then on your budget, I would go with the Comp Xe262h-10 cam with new high energy lifters. This setup will run very good on the street with a very good exhaust tone. Is this a roller cam engine?

I'm about to finish my engine running gt40p heads, and a thumper comp cam with .491 int and .476 exh and 107 lob sep. I also had to upgrade springs to allow the int and exh. But this cam is a flat tappet as well (84 block), good luck with your build
