Thread: bbk ssi intake

    Default bbk ssi intake

Has anyone put an ssi intake in a 5.0? Doesn't look like a popular option. I got one for that reason. I've used the edelbrocks in the past & wanted to try something new.

I just about bought one a few years ago because I thought it looked different, then I did some research and found out why you don't see them often. To heavy almost 50 lbs. from what I rmember, coolant leaks, oil consumption and no power over 6000 rpms. I don't know, just do a search, plenty of feedback out there. Good Luck. I still think they look cool.

Supposedly work ok with boost, not alone and they leaks was the crossover fuel rail.
I had one and sold it as well, wasn't worth the risk of fire for me.

So was this a case of too much intake for the displacement? That intake always seemed like overkill
for a 5.0, but put something more like 427CI under it, and things might could get interesting.

Too bad, those things look really neat. I've only ever saw one a few years ago.

I am starting to think it DIDN'T like boost now that I think about it more, I recall reading someone losing quite a bit of HP going from a holley systemax to the SSI

For some it's "pretty" for some its the ugliest biggest eyesore of a 5.0 intake ever made. In the end....they are just not good on any review i have ever read.

if you had a 427 though, why would you possibly need a long runner intake? do they even make the SSI for a 9.5? IDK every time someone mentions the BBK SSI i either think they're dumb, or rich and dumb. MM&FF, that BBK made 15hp over a ported gt40. for what, $600? http://www.bbkperformance.com/produc...icle-PDF-4.pdf problem with that article is that they used stock junk e7 heads, so who really knows.. most GT40 comparisons at least use a gt40 head. i mean most dyno comparisons show the GT40 make more HP and TQ and then the holley or TF or edelbrock sail away over 5500. e7's die off right there so you can't really tell what this intake would do on a real motor. probably not much or you's see it on more cars.

i'm holding out for a decently priced used holley. a lot of people have them, but they have them for good reason.

and speaking of rare.. anyone remember these?

I sold a Vortec version of that Saleen last summer. The guy that bought it picked up 20 hp over the Explorer intake he had on his motor. He also picked up 500 rpm with the swap too. He was pretty happy. Made his car run mid 12's at 108. With the explorer intake he ran 12'.80's 12.90's at 106. All with E-7 heads to boot.

Thank you, I wasn't able to find reviews, only articles about them being installed and dumped, and side by side comparisons. I'll ebay it to fund a good one. I should have known not to buy based on looks. Seemed like the same idea as the ones with the "box" for an upper manifold. Also I read how well these things did with a blower but I'm convinced it was hype.
    Thanks
