May be there Fri, for sure Sat.

Signs are posted of usual close down of M1 at 10p on Fri and 9p on Sat.
Cruisers use the 2 lanes nearest the curb.

Yes they force everyone, cruisers and spectators, to go home.

That is a great idea to post link to streaming video for those who cant make it.

It was pretty busy last nite.
Sat and watched for 2 hours. Parked 3 blocks from it at 8pm. Perfect weather.
Walked with folding chair and carry bag with drinks, snacks, sweatshirt, etc.
MonkeeMobile, Starskey/Hutch, Gen Lee TV theme cars.
A few cruisers had loud train/boat horns in the bed of pickups.
Seen a line of 5 vintage Schwinn Krate Stingrays being ridden Tues.

Mustang Alley to open Friday at Woodward Dream Cruise.

    LINK
    to article from Autoweek.

    From the article:

Ford is getting into the spirit of the event by bringing its full lineup of 2014 Ford Mustang and SVT cars to Mustang Alley. Not only will every current version of the Mustang be there, including the 662-hp Ford Shelby GT500, but the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor sport truck is also tagging along. Oh, and about 800 classic and modern Ford Mustangs will be there, as well.

    Its that time again.
Official date is Sat, unofficial all week.

    Got there Fri around 630p.
Car ran fine creeping laying back in traffic at 6mph, otherwise 2000 rpm/3rd when clear.
Got a great parking spot. 1st car on side street facing the cruise.
    In 3 hours seen:
3 Rebel Machines, 3 different factory paint schemes.
    1 SVO Mustang, black.
    Dodge Lil Red Express
1st Camaro ever built in a glass lighted display.
    Billboard featuring 2017 Mustang

Many Many others once sitting near the curb on a chair.
Good spot just before a traffic light for photo ops.

Most all the good real classics were out all day until 9p.
Then the millennials took over the night cruise with the newer cars and trucks.

No pics. Last minute at home, loaded the larger but nfg SD card by mistake into the camera.
Fixed that problem for Sat cruise.

Default Major? changes to 2017 WDC

Cruised Woodward Ave friday nite 5/27/17. Great cruising weather.
9 mile north to 15 mile stretch.
Was a 'drag', using the term to mean 'no good'.

The 'epicenter' of the Woodward Dream Cruise, 13 mile/Woodward shopping center parking lot is gone.

Observed fenced construction of a already huge hospital's extension.
Cruise wize, this area goes from a very live to dead zone.
Our obscene insurance premiums at work to save lives, but may have damaged or will slowly kill a once huge cruise.

    http://www.freep.com/story/money/car...tiac/88866188/

This will move a major traditional gathering spot and the large Mopar display somewhere else this year.
Most cruise visitors will not find this out until August, get bummed out, and move on.
Sadly, no advertising hype will change this situation this year if ever.

Default 2018 WDC Mustang Alley, FWHQ show, events, Metro Detroit info Aug 18-19

Almost that time again. Hope more cruise again as 15 years ago. Noticed less cruising last 5 years.
Cruise is thru older 40's -50's era middle class business districts. No malls. No blight.
Neighborhoods same, lots of old trees. Side street parking can be a problem. We take bicycles.

This year, traditional ground zero gathering intersection is wiped out. Last shopping center is gone.
Nearby hospital bought property and is redeveloping it. May be a hotel. What a drag.
Dodge moved their cool exhibits, that were there for 15 years, 10 miles north. Far from main cruise.
Chevy pulled out of cruise sponsorship. Ford took over. Will see if event goes up or downhill again.
Don't get me wrong. Still huge crowd and 1000's of old cars out there one does not see everyday.
Its the newer ones are not interesting to view. Like a new car lot. All look and sound basically the same.

Tons of cars parked, less and less cruising. Saturday morning good. Cars coming in to find a spot.
Less crowd, more cars cruise during the week. NB and SB four lanes, wide grass median.
Helicopters, planes with ad banners, have seen a Goodyear blimp. Sponsor advertising everywhere.
Best leave before 8pm Sat. Police shut road down, mess up traffic, force people sitting to go home like kids.
Saturday can be hot, rain come and go, Slow moving in some areas, especially curb lanes and sidewalks.
Can camp or park motor home. Many come day early to reserve spot.
Lots of BBQs, shade tents, portajohns, trash boxes.
    http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com/

Still can get crazy out there...slicks, open headers, unusual vehicles, mini bikes, scooters, karts.
Racing drivers, media, tv personalities have shown up to take a spin down Woodward over the years.
Some have brought their own hot rod personal cars with them. Or drove their race cars.

Default Start of cruise week 2018 today:

Cruise will be streamed on internet next Saturday.

    Roadkill event:
    https://www.detroitnews.com/story/bu...eek/955903002/

The "Bullitt" car will be parked in a display with three other iconic Mustangs at Kruse & Muer on Woodward in Royal Oak from Thursday to Saturday during the cruise. The 'Stang will be flanked by Ford's 2019 special edition iteration of the vehicle, the very first Mustang sold and the 10 millionth pony car that Ford debuted in early August.

Darn they are parking these exactly where family/friends annually set up quick shades by the sidewalk.
    We have to move.

Cruised out there today. It actually un-officially started last Saturday. A week long aft-evening car parade.
All day Saturday. Does get pretty noisy. Open headers, go carts, and stuff allowed. A free for all. And all free.
Chevy, Ford, Roush, others, have outdoor displays of products.
Row of pre positioned quick shades for couple miles. Chairs everywhere. Some camp overnite to keep spot.
Many classic cars parked under the stars for tomorrows main event.
Classics can even be rented for the day.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=wood...UICygC#imgrc=_

At the Muer lot were 2019 Bullitt, 1967 Bullitt, 1st Mustang sold, 10,000,000th Mustang.
Were staged in metal shipping containers, one side all open door, cars covered for the night.
In front of them in the lot were 3 Ford GT's, from all three eras.

    Default 2019 Cruise

Drove out there Thursday, sat from 630p-1030p. Pretty solid turnout for a work night.
Been out there 7 or so times since last week. Car cruise every night for 10 days.
Today, had food, drinks, nearby restrooms, music, shelter in car in case it rained.
Lucked out to get a first car from sidewalk side street parking spot off the main drag.

Default Woodward Ave Dream Cruise event Metro Detroit 2021

Cruise is on for 2021. Official day is Saturday, unofficial all this week weather permitting.
Ford returning as an official sponsor. Featuring Bronco this year. Bronco is on this year's cruise shirt.
The big 3 set up special areas to display banners and the latest plus past and future products.
For years, Dodge used to be in a large strip mall parking lot at ground zero. A hospital cleared all that to expand.

Cruise is north along M1 thru the first suburbs (now old) ever to appear next to city of Detroit city limits at 8 Mile Rd.
Continues north to about 15 mile northern cruise border.
Traditional cruise route back in the late 50's ran another 5 miles or so north to Ted's drive-in just outside Pontiac.
There were many drive-ins, a drive-in movie, and multi lane blvd. to drive on or gather off of. Really lit up too.

Cities involved along the route provide lots of clean portacans, trashboxes with ads, and first responder support.
Camper RVs tents are allowed to set up in areas normally off limits to that. Plenty arrive days early to get good spots.
Side streets are tight usually full of parked cars for quite a few blocks off the route hot spots.

Usually a passing shower later in day chases most of the cars and crowd away for the rest of the day.
Unreal when rain front steers into just this area (seen on weather radar) every year as if on cue to control the event via weather.
Is usually a soaker too. We have portashades, chairs, coolers, and bbq grill backyard party style like many others.
    http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com/

Station covers sections of cruise live for 2 hours. Mobile TV studio set up near road, remote reporters. Something like a parade style format.
Will be streaming online for those out of town.

    Default pre cruise started

Close friend reported lots of classic cars cruising out Wednesday nite. Weather hot humid no rain.
Couple miles solid parked cars and spectators enjoying the views nb and sb.
Hundreds of clean portajohns in place. Great for guys, for girls or taking a dump, is what it is. Way better than nothing.
Lots of out of town visitors. Many stay in motels on the strip all week.
100's of tent shades are set up side by side already. Many areas reserved with yellow tape or road blocks.
Lots of nearby residents have house parties. Auto related banner ads seen towed by small airplanes.
On Saturday, normally 5 miles solid both sides of ww, heavy traffic from morning till 9-10p.
Metro Detroit bus system offers free rides all day along cruise route, on/off at regular stops, bike rack and handicap.

Update. Was out there this evening. Took the Ranger. Much easier to drive it at this cruise. 90's and humid.
Less attention and no requests to do a burnout. Much cooler inside than the black none a/c car.
Ford models and submodels in their display areas. All had the special manufacturer licence plates.
Mustang GT, Cobra, Mach 1, GT350. Mach 1 has huge quad tailpipes like the Cobra.
    Mustang Mach E, Mach E-X
Bronco Sport, Bronco full size, F-150 Tremor, Raptor.
Plus the usual suvs and Transits. Vintage Mustangs and Broncos
Several vehicles were under wraps unknown id.
New full size Broncos were being driven in traffic.

NB on ww near 11 mile rd. Much more of everything up the road 1/2 mile. Although 'thin' now, this area will be filled up Saturday.

Brief TV and radio live spot coverage every hour has started.
Is different to see classics enroute on the freeway.
For driving in heavy cruise traffic, a smooth and well cooled 4 mph is what to tune for.
Free live local bands on stage and dj's will have setups scattered in the area as usual Fri and Sat.
If i lived 20 miles closer would be able to attempt to take all this in.
Staying home Friday. Rest up and prep for long day Sat.
The Bob Seger tribute band at the Ferndale stage Friday 5p would be cool. Detroit music.

At AAA admin offices near the Glass House (FWHQ) in Dearborn.

Dunno when or exactly where it was taken. Not last year for sure. Car was down.
Fog light spacing was the giveaway and what got my attention.
Thought i seen it on noon news and froze the shot from the 6p news to take a pic.
Sony 42" crt rear proj tv and Samsung Galaxy phone.
Now to get a full screen pic at 11p to see if the scenery is clearer.

Definitely my 79 Cobra behind the red Jeep and 59 Caddy.

Was out on ww yesterday. Sat in usual spot.
Lots of cars and spectators until 10p.
Wouldn't know it was a workweek weekday
Automakers have started assembling their displays.
Many quickshades claiming their spot already.
Rain predicted for the main weekend events, so have to do pre cruise viewing routine.
Is weather being modded to hose down large crowds? Its too weird this happens every year on cruise day.
At least Th and Fri will be dry and 80's.

Seen Jarvis High Performance Custom Machining's Rat Fink Chevy van. Street driven.
The blower scoop on the roof lights up at night as does the undercarrage. Has Hurst Lighting rod shifters, wheelie bars.
Could not catch it parked very long to inspect it.Facebook pics:

    Default 2023 WDC notes

Active weather pattern until Friday, then hot.
Forecast is rain events in late afternoons, overnites, and mornings. Wednesday dry.

Local tv news reminded of the 2003 NE US power grid failure 20 years ago.
Woodward Cruise was blacked out we were there. Eerie scene.
Traffic noise, headlights, crowds, in pitch dark.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northe...ackout_of_2003.

Sunday's Thunder over Michigan air show MIG-23 jet crash added weirdness to this week.
A week of rare sights has begun.

Default Woodward Dream Cruise 2023 notes

Detroit ABC CH-7 WXYZ site has updated 2023 Woodward Dream Cruise coverage past and present.

Video, pics from Woodward Ave, the historic Metro Detroit hot rod drag boulevard since the 50's.
A lot of content and info. Photos and comment of last years event.
Live streaming is mentioned. Scheduled Prime Time Special 7-9p on tv live Saturday evening and again Sunday morning.
Pull up a chair and watch the parading action from anchors in main booth, several remote reporters, and in-car.
    https://www.wxyz.com/money/auto-news/dream-cruise

Dodge had cruise week corporate displays at 13-woodward. Lost parking lot to hospital expansion.
Moved to Pontiac and created the RKN event. Auburn Hills main HQ is in the Pontiac area.
    https://www.motortrend.com/events/ro...ch-inspection/

All age groups still go out there, reliving weekly the always interesting past time slow ride on the strip day or night.
The Detroit Zoo at 11 mile is another world to cruisers.
Now is drive up and drive-thrus. On weekends, the vehicle mix and mood changes noticeably to show and tell mode.
Large screen outdoor movies, with speaker echo, are now shown in Memorial Park, not at the long gone Oak Drive-In.
The entire M-1 cruising loop does not go into Detroit city limits to the south, nor past Pontiac to the north.
