I'd like to get over to that side of the state for Woodward one of these years. I always hear about it, but have never been.

28th Street "Metro Cruise" starts on this side of the state next week, which is like a mini-version of Woodward.

Yah 28th looks like a nice big good one lots of walking to cover all of it and similar long cruise route.
WW is more spread out cannot walk or see everything in one day. Overwhelming. Can be a zoo. Has its dead zones too.
Elders, families, arrive at 5am or days earlier to snag a spot to perch. No stop and go, exhaust fumes, non cruising crazy drivers.
Actually, turnout is hyped more than in the past. Reputation and big sponsorships keep it going.
Get togethers with family and friends in a different fun environment are gold. So is people watching.
Just being there is different than the other events. Seen many rare cars and oddities over the years.
Did a video on a bike once. Not recommended to ride a bike out there. Go cart would be dangerous fun and is allowed.
Little kids slobber on show car paint. Have to watch your car if showing it off.
The police close cruising down both sides at 9p starting Thursday or Friday nite another traffic mess.
Traffic gets dumped off ww every mile intersection.
We stay and sit because everyone that has not left leaves at once. Gridlock.
We can't figure out why they do that. Shift work for first responders. People will leave gradually at 10p or so anyway on their own.

This upcoming Sunday FWHQ Ford show is a must. Both are lot to cover on one weekend.
Not adding any visits during the week. Have to keep it fun and not like going to work every day.

We go to the small but fine Harper cruise in SCS last Wednesday in August.
Then to a Roseville show in September.
Smaller local event auras are just as enjoyable in their own way.

Wait until i-96 and I-696 rebuilds are done in a few years.
Driving detour routes is a bummer with traffic lights and added traffic.
Only 20 miles from here takes almost an hour driving to get there vs 1/2 hour normally.

Woodward Ave. repaved road surfaces are smooth the whole route this year.

WDC prep has started. Can see and feel it in the air out there. Displays, forklifts, 100's of portajohns staged.
Seeing custom cars parked in the open and in the dark overnight is rare.
Big checkered flags hanging on city of Berkely light poles look cool.
Many Quickshade frames already staked out along with yellow caution tape and plastic fencing everywhere.
First responders have shelters and tables set up in the median along the route.

One Amoco station was undergoing a serious power washing of the driveway and pump areas. Never seen that.

Rain today then clear, sunny, very warm weather forecast holding for Friday thru Sunday.

Default outdoor music event in town tonite

Friend found this free in a park concert that popped up in east side of town for tonight.
Defiantly goes with the DWC vibe around this week.
Among senior hippies sitting on chairs smoking po_. Rec is legal in Mich since 2018.
Will be a damp weather evening outdoor concert. Can't go.
Id say worth skipping a night of car watching.

Watched a old video of the band LOUD over JBL speakers. Would have liked to known and gone to that one.
According to my old calendar work schedule, was off work that Saturday 5/21/16 weekend. Darn.
Was a decent mix of upbeat songs. Dunno if sessions now have same songs and band members.

    Friday today
Car holiday atmosphere in the air.
Cruising and showing started big time this morning.
Tons of cars and spectators will be camping out all night to hold their Saturday spot on the sidelines.
    https://www.wxyz.com/money/auto-news...d-dream-cruise

Live streaming right now from M1 race course at north end of route.
    https://www.clickondetroit.com/live/...isty-mcdonald/

All the local new channels have several short live feeds at all broadcast times.
TV news weatherman says sunny 79F Saturday main cruise day. He goes out there.
Sunday FWHQ Ford show- very different 89F and humid.
Car owners recognize the weatherman walking around their verti and warn him "better not rain when top is down".
Others made a comment of people pretending to enjoy driving a stick shift.

Says filmed last year but 2023 is the same views.
Very good homemade tour cruising route in a new Bronco starting sb towards Detroit from Birmingham.
Right two lanes are recommended cruise lanes, outer two are thru lanes.
    Video drones are popular.
Sure can distinguish old and new vehicle designs.
Ha even captured the 'shiek' riding his scooter. Is a regular.
Night Rider next to family Truckster like in the movie Vacation.
Have seen a 60's version Batmobile this year. Duke's General Lee and Monkeemobile GTO usually show up.

Royal Oak and others parade their nice equipment.
Seen this one other day now know what it is.
Large hospital and fire station are at ground zero stretch of route sirens add to the either.

    Default fun day

More attendance than in recent years

Seen gen 7 2024 Mustangs parked and cruising. Manufacturer license plates.
Wide all glass dash, new taillight facia design indented like Mach E, new grill.
Buzz word was foxbody for our cars. Finally get included in coverage.
Lots of Broncos all years. Enough to do a Bronco alley someday.
    Many Ford GTs
Jay Leno showed up again in a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170.

Headed home, decided to drive couple miles north to ritzy Birmingham at 10p
Boy the party crowds moved north from 13 mile to 15-16. Noted for next year.
Chevy moved display there this year. Higher income marketing target nowadays.
Ford, Roush, displays still present in traditional income neighborhoods.

Highly recommend viewing CH7 2023 cruise coverage segments.

Finally recovering from last week events. Sitting, walking. Low consumption of food and fluids in summer heat.
Car is fine after maneuvering and parking on grass median. Glad it is not lowered or was driven over any curbs.
Post cruise Sunday and Ford WHQ show were out of reach physically and a bit mentally too.

    Default sea cruiser

Has hydraulics or something to rock the boat like waves do.
Believe the name of the boat is Sea Burban.

Default New Woodward Ave. drive in

Big Boy has had a presence at a few different locations on Woodward Ave since the 50's.
Almost all the ave. drive-ins from back then are long gone.
This new spot is next to two story Duggan's Irish Pub on a primo part of the cruise route.
Large property is a block long counting the corner bar. 100 car parking lot.

The old Red Coat Inn across the street has 17.00 Red Coat burgers.. and dirty carpeting.
Appearance is of owners not spending money on upkeep for years.
Duggan's is old too but will hold their own. Two small bars, retro food, popular year round.
10-12.00+ for a 3.00 burger? At those menu prices, they all can keep their food. Too bad.
A traditional cruise mood has been slowly ruined with constant profit gouging most everywhere.
