Funny how these are blue, but I have seen later ones in black. This is from a 30 mile Pace car

They are often taken off and tossed right when the fuel line was disconnected for whatever reason. I have a few. I think they were standard on 5.0s up through 86? Note sure but I am certain 85s had them.

Well no 84/85 CFI or 86 would have had them in the foxes with EFI

From MCA Rulebook 79-85 must have fuel pump guard. Not applicable for CFI or SEFI. 2 Points deducted without

Gotcha. Makes sense with the CFI/SEFI being sans mechanical pump.

This is one of those parts right up there with the rear shock covers and the lower engine bay plastic skirts. Most people won't believe you that they ever existed.

Yes, you can see that radiator hose guard to the left of the fuel pump guard. I bought that on Ebay, I asked my friend Steve where it goes from his 30 Mile Pace Car that I use as a reference.

My guard is blue on my pace car and missing on my cobra. I have a guard for my cobra when I replace the pump and I don't recall it being blue, it came off a 79 cobra.

Both my 78 Fairmont and 79 Z7 302s came with the cover, as did my 85 Capri RS 5.0, but none were blue. Mine all were either black, or possibly bare metal. All the covers wound up in the scrap bin.

I bought a D9 NOS guard, last one in the country, and it was blue. I have an E2 one that is black.

There is one for sale on EBay.

I would get this if you need one. Hard to find.

Is this guard specific to the 5.0 engine? It wouldn't have come with a 2.3L NA engine?

79 Cobra 2.3T here had a black one.
Took it off and stored it.
My guess it is a safety item.

Interesting. If I find one, I'll grab it for my Ghia. She didn't have one when I bought her.

It looks like someone took a torch to this one to open the gap to allow it to be removed easier. Cool though. I wonder if our '79 2.8 would have had one? The PO changed the pump prior to us getting it and it wasn't there.

    Good Post!

It looks like years around 82 they started making these black. Maybe because the Engine block is no longer Blue.
