Default I'm back and got another fox!

Nice to see the forum moved over finally! - Well I got a loan and bought a once wrecked 93k mile Neon SRT-4 to try the real sport compact thing again and just didn't like it.. SO I set out to find something more my style.. in the form of this 1993 Mustang LX (I had posted about this car before when I was looking to trade my 83 GT for it) I traded straight up for the LX (we both had parts on each end for the cars as well to make the deal worth it for us).. this fox gets the same mileage as the Neon did with 250hp more at the wheels haha

The LX is a decent car for sure-

Teal/Reef Blue in color (looks Blue and Green depending on the light)
    5.0 5 speed factory
150k miles only rust is on the sunroof and rear hatch lip
    SFC's installed
    stock short block
Trickflow FAC170 heads w/ 1.72 Scorpion roller rockers
FRPP cobra intake (come with a used Trickflow street burner so I'm swapped that on)
    3.55 8.8
came with the draglites and brand new Nitto's (have since sold those and bought fox Saleens)
    Vortech V1 A trim S/C (SN0003 LOL)
suspension is bone stock besides rear lower control arms
had BBK 1 5/8 shorty headers, 2.5" O/R H pipe, and a SS redneck truck sounding cat back (will be getting Dynomax Ultraflows or nicer Flowmasters)
It was recently before I got it upgraded to a Tremec 3550 trans as well! just needs a new clutch badly..
Dyno'd 350/400 @ the wheels at Dynotune USA in South Dakota..

    on to the pics!!

the first of many parts orders!

    The tear down!!

unmetered air leak 1 (found this one and about 8 boost leaks including the intake gaskets!)

Real -10 AN line clamped on the oil return line..

    upper intake mock up

New oil sending unit extension- used a steel 3" long pipe, a iron "T", and a brass 45*adapter- sits right where the stock piece does! (still have yet to see if it leaks or not.. hope not!)

Driverside accessories all back together! Only issue I ran into was 1 wrong bolt for the PS pump.. had a smaller longer bolt with a nut on the back- I found a original bolt left over from my old 87 GT that fit right in!

polished up the S/C bracket - found the alt had to come out with the bracket the first time cause of again a smaller long bolt and a nut- again found a original bolt from my 87 that worked so I can now remove/install the alt with out it being bolted to the bracket

also found the alt's connector to be a fire waiting to happen so I bought a new 3G one and spliced it in!!- still need a working 3G alt as the 2 I have are junk

This pic shows the bracket bolted in-

    head unit mock up

reclocked to clear the hood and line up with the discharge tube/upper intake

Where the motor currently sits- upper intake temp. bolted on for first start up, new black couplers on the discharge tube, catch can and upper rad hose mocked up! Forgot to mention the head unit is now plumbed with -4/-8 AN lines now (much nicer!!)

the saleens! need to lower it badly! let me know what you guys think!

Looks good. Should be a fun car. But I have to add, I think that the Cobra intake is more attractive than the TF intake. No doubt the TF will make more power though.

I tend to disagree I don't personally like the Cobra intake (was a Chinese FRPP piece)- but do agree the TF with a 75mm TB will make more power..

Got stuff done last night! Got the cold air intake in, regaped the plugs(gaps were all over from .032- .045 LOL- now all are at a tight .025), plug wires in, got the egr solenoids out, cleaned the passenger fender well up, and mounted the catch can. All that's left is install the PMGR starter, battery/charge cables, 3G alt, serp belts, delete the egr stuff, and clean up the driver side fenderwell (should happen tonight after I get back from getting a tool box)

Looks like you're moving right along and I was so glad to see you replace the wheels. It looks much better now. I was wondering if you have a side view of the new Hurst shifter handle? I'm not happy with the way mine looks and I'm thinking of switching it out. The one you have looks more like what I want, I'd just like to see a profile pic if you have time?

I really like this car and what you're doing with it. Can't wait to see if finished. Congrats!
    Cheers!

That's the one I want (the stick). I like how it bends back towards you. The one I have now bends back, but right by the knob it twists back towards the windshield. (Just slightly). A lot of people have them on FEP, it came with my hurst comp plus shifter. Looks like ill be placing a summit order soon.
Thanks again, and awesome car (those wheels are killer)!
    Cheers!

Found the fuel leak!!! the bottom of the filler neck seal was well the whole seal is shrunk and dried out.. explains why it only leaks when above a half tank.. to the local parts stores I go to get one!

Then tighten the lugs and set the idle properly and off to the gas station I go to test if it still leaks or not!

LOL sorry guys been away for awhile! The car needed a new tune and well I didn't want to get one for it.. SO I parted it out (sold the SC setup and TF heads) and am currently returning it to a stock "bolt on" car..

Small update - got some more parts to finish this thing up including missing hardware (just basic Gr8 hardware) - going to just re-use the ARP head bolts - SO this past weekend I got the new crank under drive and water pump pulley's installed as well as the fan

Going to try to blitz it out this weekend! - going to be warm so hopefully I will have enough time for everything..

I still need to get new spark plugs, some oil to flush the coolant out of the lifter valley, and new coolant. Pics this weekend!

You were almost done and did a complete swap of setups? Either one is fine, just sounds like a lot of work. Good luck on the rest of the build and I can't wait to see how it turns out. BTW, I like the saleens, perfect fit for that car.

HA ya the supercharger setup needed a refresh (including a new short block) and tune which I didn't want to do so instead of driving it til it melted (and having 2 built Mustangs) I'm making this car NA for daily driver status = 1 stock bolt on car and 1 built car

Which I basically saved it's life doing the cylinders are so glazed from the boost you can turn the motor over with a normal ratchet on a crank pulley bolt LOL

The motor was rebuilt at one point cause it's 0 decked to the point the pistons are coming out of the hole

Hey sorry I haven't gotten back on here for months haha - WELL lots has happened well not really lol just spending money getting everything gathered for a stock setup-

    Parts sourced so far-

New Trickflow lower intake (to mater with the Streetburner upper/75mm TB combo)
    New stock PCV setup
    Mustang EFI valve covers
E7 heads (found to be junk)
19#'ers (used but have new pintle caps/O rings for them)
Custom CAI (looks like a ghetto power pipe)
C&L 76mm MAF w/ Blue tube (was told for 94/95 w/ 76mm housing and 19#'ers)- we'll see if she works
    New K&N filter
    New gaskets for everything
    New reman water pump
    Used underdrive water pump pulley
    New underdrive crank pulley
    New Cloyes timing chain set
New Goodyear serp belt (84.5" for smog delete w/ A/C)
New OEM Ram clutch kit w/ Ram billet steel flywheel
    New/used motor mounts
    New OEM head light kit
Swapping in the BeCool 1 row rad and T5 from my 83 GT
    New spark plugs
New/used 87 5.0 motor (Thanks to my uncle hooking me up with it)
    Used stock alt bracket
    Used 3G alt
Probably more... LOL should be getting the garage cleaned out a bit tomorrow to get to work on this beast and drop the flywheel off at a shop to get resurfaced pics of the new motor!

7 cans of brake clean later and in primer-

    In paint (New Ford Blue)

Tear down begins tomorrow night - replacing the rear main, oil pan gasket, timing chain, timing chain cover, and water pump. probably bolt the TF lower intake down as well - as well as chase some threads and install some small stuff like the thermactor plugs in the heads , remove the oil PSI log and paint it black and reinstall it... as well as clean and install the clean stock VC's I have...

    More progress -

stock intake off, put my clean VC's on w/ the cheapo rubber gaskets from my 83 GT (this 93 came with the $35+ Felpro blue VC gaskets), and painted the oil PSI log black - also pulled the water pump after taking the pic.. Got to pull the balancer, oil pan, and timing cover tomorrow night!

Thanks! Ya Even I forget sometimes this thread is over here haha - Ya I spent $50 on the E7's from a guy on my local Mustang forum and they're missing parts in the valve springs so they have a TON of slop - and instead of dump $400 into the E7's being redone - BOOM not gonna happen LOL new/used motor from my uncle for $100 cash + some fox parts.. and the 8 hour round trip to WI and back..

Engine is said to be a TRW forged piston 225hp 1987 piece -we'll find out tomorrow - either way 20hp more than the 93 5.0L has and this new one runs great!

Small update - got the new timing chain installed and baked the timing cover in a parts washer at work! this should go back together pretty quick here I think.
