I'm thinking all it needs is a set of 20" gangsta wheels with spinners and a lot of fluorescent red accents in the interior. Maybe a skull shifter knob. Or would that be too much.......... LOL! I can't wait to see this puppy the next time I'm down! When is this years all Ford meet in Calgary. I'd love to drive the little pony down.

I got the interior all wiped down and today I am starting on some upholstery cleaning before the local show on the 10th. There is another all-Ford show on the 18th I just found out about. I may enter it in the 79-86 stock category for the heck of it. I just hope my trim paint arrives well before then, it pretty much all needs to be re-done!

So I took the time to detail as much as I could for this local show and shine I had decided to enter on a whim. Seeing how good this car had lived mad it show worthy IMO. Why not?

After all of that polishing, I vacuumed everything (not that it really needed it), I shampooed all of the upholstery and carpet (thanks to my boss who lent me his machine!), wiped all of the plastics down and did the windows. Not too shabby!

I put on the two emblems that were given to me with the car. I turns out I am still missing one SVO badge

I put the one SVO on the front quarter so they each had one:

There is a small dent under this emblem and other small indications these emblems were pried off previously with little love

    Default My First "Show"

I didn't really think much when I signed up for this and I certainly didn't go in with too high of expectations This show was cancelled in June due to the flooding Calgary received then and they weren't sure it would go on but they re-booked it. We had beautiful weather for once and there ended up being just over 200 registered participants.

Last minute I made up a sign, put some quick stats about the SVO and stuff and used my son's music stand Good timing for us, it was first come first served and we got a spot on a corner This was the only fox body on the lot!
There were quite a few people looking at it. Of course everyone tends to gravitate to the big fancy muscle cars

It was a long afternoon but it was all good! It looks like there are a lot of people that knew each other and do the show circuits.

There is an all Ford show (mainly Mustangs by the categories) in a light industrial area this coming Sunday. It is put on and is held at the location of a performance and dyno shop and sponsored by another performance supplier. Unfortunately, my trim paint is not expected until the middle of the week so that part is out of the question. I think I will still enter it in the 79-86 Mustang stock class. I can't see many being there

    Thumbs up Free Car Cover!!

I posted in the Events/Canada/Calgary thread about meeting up with a guy for a local Wednesday gathering at a nearby Casino and got a free car cover from him http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...garians-around

I'll give you the background: Whilst Googling local car appraisers, a link came up to one of the local Mustang Owner Associations. On their classifieds there was the appraiser I got a number for, but there was an ad for a FREE Fox Body car cover. I called the guy and he said he and some other members go to this Wednesday affair and that he would bring it. He said he used to have an SVO but has moved on a couple of times and now has a 2009 SVT Cobra Convertible so it doesn't fit. I met up with him and he gave it to me, explained there were some small wear marks etc. I put it away and didn't really look at it. Nice guy, we talked a couple of times while looking around and they think they remember one of the previous owners of my car. That's the guy I got the car paraphernalia/show stuff handed down from a few owners prior. Cool!

Sorry, got a little wordy. The topic was the cover. I took a closer look at it this weekend and it is quite nice. I expected something cheap for free. I already have a cheap plain, generic, thin cloth cover. Two cars now so two plain covers. It turns out is a Ford cover. It looks like it will be a nice fitting unit. It has the pockets for the mirrors, a designated hole for the antenna if you want and a running horse on the front. I'm impressed!! I'll be storing in style!

I'll get a picture of it on a car soon!

    Default The Second "Show"

Yesterday I went to an All-Ford show put on by a small race and performance dyno-shop.http://www.techmotion.ca/

They are more focused on fine tuning EFI/ computer controlled cars "Tecmotion is happy to provide performance programming and chip services..."

I hadn't heard about them before that I recall but they are of course mainly ford orientated. The owner Matthew has three Mustangs (the first three in the row- you can check them out on the site above). He's has a computer science degree and programs his own cars! One being the 10 second '90 that has a custom intake system. Pretty cool stuff!

There were 80 cars there. A lot of newer 'Stangs (Shelbys, Bosses, Rousch, GTs) with their fancy superchargers; both stock and modified.

A couple panteras, some trucks, a scattering of 60's cars, streetable race type cars. My favorite?? An original local owner 1969 Cougar 429 CJ/ 4 speed. No other options. It was ordered by the dealer that way and then sold on the lot. There is something to be said of that plain-Jane look.

    This is awesome!

I was in the '79-'86 "stock" category. Car #53.

Unfortunately, even though most of the cars were newer I had another car in my category! It was a very nice, bought a few years ago off of the original owner 1983 Mustang GT. 110K KM on it. I was still all original including the plug wires I noticed. Tough competition!

At the end of the day, the GT took the prize. It was a vote amongst the participants and they have the say. (I voted for me )

Funny, If I had taken my '82 GT, it would have been in the '79-'86 modified and would have won by default Haha! Maybe next year!

Oh, and another bonus! I ran into an old friend that I had lost contact with for around ten years. He's actually the one I got the stick-on louvers for my '82 from many years ago! He's got a 2002 with a supercharged something or other in it Him and some friends from an SVT forum go out cruising all the time so I may bring one of the foxes in the future

That's definitely a nice 83GT, but it doesn't even compare to your SVO. I think you were robbed. In the end I know it isn't about trophy's but more about being a part of the car scene and getting out there and having fun...but winning would have been nice huh? Keep showing that baby and I'm sure you will start to see the awards flood in, it's a very nice car. White svo's are where it's at, and yours is no exception.

**I totally agree about that 429 Cougar...what an awesome car, andi live that it's very "bare bones." you wouldn't see that car as a threat until it was too late.**
    Cheers!

I know it's a unique car around here. They always deserved more attention and recognition. I was a little surprised honestly but whatever. My day will come.

I even ordered a Motorcraft battery today to help be a little more "stock" in the future! I'll lick my wounds and be back

    Thanks for the kind words!

    Default Oh crap...

So, on my way home from the show on Sunday I took a cloverleaf to get on the freeway. I was wearing flip/flops and while going around quick I felt a few drips on my gas pedal foot Uh oh!

    This looks like trouble

Years ago, when the heater core went on my '82, it blew and steamed up the entire interior immediately. I read a couple other threads recently about leaks on the engine side of the firewall even. It was hot out and I was revving pretty good up to when this happened. That was the only bit that came out and there was none before of after (I came home and parked it). It may be pooling in the duct and the G's of the corner brought it out. It was only on the drivers side.
I am presuming this is going to get worse. I am thinking of bypassing the heater core and leaving it for the winter and maybe tackle it next year. Not like I'll be driving it in the winter and needing heat. There shouldn't be any issues with that should there?

It may just be that the condensation drain is clogged in your HVAC box. Especially if you have been running the air conditioning. The drain is located outside of the passengers side footwell. Easiest way to clear the clog is from under the car poking a long philips screwdriver into the drain hole. Water should start draining out straight away.

So in my sadness of the heater core probably being shot and the car being clean still I thought I would try this cover on for size. I put it on backward first and then figured it out. I am pretty impressed with free cover! High quality and it fits pretty darned good! It doesn't quite fit everywhere like the mirrors or the licence plate window, maybe it was for an SN95 car?? Not worth complaining about though!!

That would be great news, I will check. I did smell antifreeze and unfortunately did not have the AC on (not much at all in a month). I'm not holding my breath

Edit: I did get caught in a heavy rain the first week I had it though. Hmmm

    Default BXT-56 Motorcraft Battery

Bruce Mohacsy was looking for a Motorcraft battery a while back for his '82: http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...hlight=battery

    They apparently weren't available anymore.

Not that I was looking, I found this thread which talked about them a little more: http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...tery-for-86-GT

I don't usually go to the dealer often but on an unrelated trip to the parts counter I asked about this battery. They were in eastern Canada, three days to order one in and $133. Reasonable I thought, so I ordered one for my '82. It is the same part number for '82-'86 according to them. They are still around (for now). It looks to have a good warranty; three year free replacement and then pro-rated after that to 100 months!

After I got it, I immediately decided this would go in the SVO! It fits like a glove and looks like it belongs!

Interesting. I would have never known that never having seen the two side by side. There is a "NOS" set in boxes on eBay:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-OEM-1983...fb0f5c&vxp=mtr

"Up for auction is a NOS pair of Marchal fog light covers for a 1983-1986 Mustang or Thunderbird. They are brand new original Ford and in very nice condition. One has a light rub mark as pictured but nothing serious. Part number E3SZ-15K233-A. "Free Shipping" is to the continental US only but we can ship anywhere for an additional cost. Any questions, give Greg a call at 812-425-4794. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about payment. Thanks for looking."

His description in the fine print doesn't specify SVO though and I know I can't confirm yes or no with a part number. Ah well, they work for me for now.

    Default Heater core bypass

I decided to bypass the heater core so I could at least get a couple more drives out of it this fall. Of course being stored for the winter, heat won't be an issue.

Wow, why did I decide to do this with the intercooler on? Not impossible, but much more difficult!

Both of the metal lines connecting to the engine are 5/8" OD. I removed both of the factory hoses and looped a hose to bypass the core.

I did not like the proximity to the turbo and exhaust so I wrapped it with cladding nearest them. Not 100% but it will suffice for now. Ran it until the fan came on; no leaks

Oh and they were both the original hoses on the car:

I don't have the time right now to pull a dash and change a heater core.

That's cool man. I've dealt with WMS for a lot of my build. Super patient and knowledgeable guys.
Hoping My 86 is done by next summer so I can bring it to a meet or 2 in Calgary.

    Default Small Upgrades

Special thanks to Mark (MAPSVO) for procuring some small parts for me. Nothing really major but nothing I could find locally for sure.

SVO specific metal license plate bracket. It sure looks the same as the spare I had gotten from the junkyard off of a '79 but the hole centers didn't match.

Ford Racing licence plate white is not the same as Oxford white as you can tell. If I could get Mike (TopGear86) to sell me that Ford Motorsport one he has

There was a broken bezel for the rear seat fold down latch as well. Just those little detail things you know :

The days are getting shorter and nice days and nights will get fewer and less frequent. Living near the foothills of the Rockies allows for some nice backyard to see. Windy, hilly roads through and into the foothills and this car enjoys that! I wanted to get some high quality pictures of my car and this was an opportunity to enjoy an evening jaunt and get the pictures. I would say it was a 20 mile one way from my house to here. I wished it wasn't cloudy, it would have been even more perfect!
