I'm touched that my fans have noticed that I've not posted a race report for a while. I have a very good reason though. Due to an unexpected health issue I've not been able to race and may not be back at it for quite a while.

The last couple weeks have been a whirlwind of blood tests, X-rays and CT scans. I have a partially collapsed right lung and because the effusion (fluid) obscures the scan pictures the doctors are having a hard time determining the exact cause. I go for a biopsy this coming week as there is a strong possibility that the collapse is caused by some type of tumor in the lung. Hopefully the biopsy will tell us just what's going on and a course of treatment can be set out.

If any of you have ever had a lung collapse that was not caused by trauma I'd like to hear your experience. PM me if you're willing to talk about it. It's pretty scary at this point as the doctor has said the odds are that it's cancer.

Crap. I was just trying to be humorous. No idea what to even say. Hoping for the best. If you can keep us updated, that would be appreciated, but I know you have more on your mind than a car forum. Although I am not a highly religious man, thoughts and prayers go to you anyway.

Thanks guys. I know that nobody knows what to say in this type situation, but I also know you all mean well. I will update when I have more information as sometimes it helps just to talk about it rather than holding everything in.

I am 62 years old, a non-smoker, and have enjoyed relatively good health my whole life. My primary care doctor says I have very low risk factors for lung cancer so perhaps it will turn out to be something less threatening. I'm hoping for the best while trying to prepare for the worst.

It's hard to believe how quickly one's life can be turned upside down.

I really appreciate that my FEP friends are all thinking of me during this rough period.

There was a slight change of plans as instead of having the lung biopsy yesterday the doctor decided to drain some of the fluid from my lung and send it to the lab to check for malignancy. He's trying to alleviate the pressure brought by the fluid to see if the lung will re-inflate. I was shocked to learn how much fluid was present as they told me there was about 2 liters! They couldn't take it all out at once because they said that could cause the entire lung to collapse so they drained 1 liter yesterday. In a couple days we'll get the lab results and see where we go from here.

The lab results from the fluid they drained are in and it's good news. The doctor just called to tell me they found no sign of malignancy in the fluid. He cautioned me that this doesn't mean we are completely out of the woods, but said it is definitely encouraging news. I'm going today for more blood work (I feel like a pin cushion), and we'll see where we go from there. I will say I'm feeling a little more optimistic than I've been since they first mentioned the "C" word.

    Wish me luck!

Great news! I know they are not 100% yet, but still great news. I cannot imagine walking around with more liters of fluid in my lungs than most Hondas have under the hood.
