    Im reviving this old thread.

I just got my car back from the body shop and of all things I have no brake lights. For the past 4 years I've had this car i have had people pull up to me and tell me my brake lights are out or one of them is out but whenever I checked they seemed to be working.

This past Spring before I took it to the body shop for body work and paint I converted all my exterior light with the exception of headlights, to LEDs I got from superbriteleds.com. I even replaced all my bulb sockets because the old ones were looking crusty.

My taillights work so the bulbs are good. I picked up a Motorcraft brake light switch for a few bucks along with the bushings and clip to set it up. I assumed I wouldn't need a connector but when i looked under there it seems someone cut it out and repaired the lines with crimps and blade connectors. To make matters worse, both lines are red wire. I ordered a connector from local parts store, but how will I splice this in not knowing polarity of the two wires. Or is it not an issue?

Shouldn't matte as the switch is nothing but an interruption in the circuit.

Just cut and splice in and you should be up and running. If you are concerned with the "polarity" then just make sure to wire the switch so the new plug matches the orientation of the old plug and you should be fine.

One wire is 12v from fuse block; other wire goes to rear bulbs.

    Compared pics of above connector with other brands that have same color wires;
Theirs have one with a red stripe.

The orange one is in the same position as other brands with a striped wire
Usually that indicates 12v power feed.
The violet wire would then be the rear light feed.
Backtrack the wires, and install repair connector.
Here i usually would cut off junk wire, strip, then use a butt connector then heat shrink or ele. tape.
Best is twist, solder, tape/shrink, but hard to do in confined areas.

The only wire strippers that work are the plier-like auto adjust ones like a GB brand. 10-20 bucks.
Durable, a go to fun tool well worth the money.
Quickly and accurately clamps then cleanly strips wire with no damage to wire jacket or strands.
    Auto adjusts to wire size.

Not cheapo strippers, teeth, or razor knives.

3M wire taps work ok, but not the greatest for something safety related like brake light wiring.
Same for twist on wire connectors.
