Default Finally got the car to the track

I finally got the "Old mare" to the track last wed. With some old 275-60 BFG DR's the first pass was a 13.2@105 Second pass was bad since I missed 4th gear (it's been 13 years) the third pass was the best with a 13.07@108 All passes had a 60' times in the high 1.9's. This was the very first time out since getting it back together.

With some tuning and a fresh set of slicks I should be in the low to mid 12 second range. Who knows could maybe get better with some rear suspension upgrades and if I finally get the car weighed. Never the less I'm happy with our junkyard explorer motor.

Pretty good for what is supposed to be a "outdated" cam- once I get some new times, we will have to compare- our motors are fairly similar, I think.

The thing that helps me is my car is super light! I have no accessories besides the alt, tubular front end, no hvac, no bumper supports etc. It would be awesome if I could afford light weight brakes and some aluminum heads.

I look forward to seeing you at the track
I go to Test n Tune and Midnight Madness quite often. It would be awesome to meet up sometime down there and check the cars out! Your coupe looks awesome in the build thread. Wish I had times like yours, though.

Yeah that would be cool to see a bunch of local cars meet there. I know that a few local STLMustangs guy's are there on a regular basis. I'm still trying to get my ducks in a row just to be able to go once in awhile.

I am not active on STLMustangs so I do not really know any members or there cars. Starting in another couple of weeks I will be going more regularly.

I'm liking your 108 mph trap speed. If you keep working at it, you'll be in the mid 12's!

I'm really happy with it's first outing! It's pretty much untuned engine and chassis.

    Very impressive for your combo!

Especially out of the box with little setup!

Your post reminded me of how with manufacturing the way it was, there were exceptional motors that ran better. Every so many engines built, you got one by chance blueprinted correctly or the heads were cast better. We know from building engines that a properly setup short block is worth 30 HP and good head castings 10-15 HP, add that up and you get a miracle motor.

It seems you may have found one!

Well I say it's a JY motor, but another member (Pacecar79) here rebuilt it with a hone and ring kit. Than we shaved the heads 30 and put some Alex springs on it than threw in an "E" cam. Most of the parts are just cleaned JY stuff.

    Thanks for the encouragement!
