    Default Mercury fox variants question

Ok I'm a big fan of Capris,
Getting a little confused on some cars what other fox Mercs were made?
    Capri
    Cougar
    Zephyr
    Marquis

Anybody have pics of the early stuff I swear I saw a box top Cougar just trying to get a category on them.
    Thanks

in '81 and '82 in addition to the Thunderbirdish two door there was also a boxy version two door and four door version. This was the sister car to the Ford Granada (the '81-'82 version not the version most remember from the 70's). In '82 only they also added a wagon into the mix.

in '83 all of these went away and made way for the newly designed aerodynamic Cougar. The two door, four door, and wagon were given a facelift and called the Marquis.

The "boxy" Cougar (and Thunderbird) were made for three years (1980-82) on the Fox platform then they went "aero" for another six years (1983-88) on the Fox platform.

    Default Non-XR7 Cougars 1981-1982

I really like the two-tone paint on the four-door shown, however, I don't believe it ever made it to production (meaning, this might have been a pre-production 1981 Cougar).

There was never a 2-door Fox Marquis though.

Funny you should say that. I was just wondering how cleanly you could produce a 2-door Marquis or LTD using a Zephyr/Fairmont/Cougar as a base. I know you can put a 88-91 Crown Vic front and rear onto a 79-87 Crown Vic body with some work.

It's a Merc and really well done, although they used a Ford grille if you want to pic nits... And there are a few other Futura/Z-7s out there like this. I've even seen one with a Granada nose.

I have a Zephyr boxtop i eventually want to graft a Marquis nose onto done up like an LTS. As far as I know, no one's done a boxtop. It won't be as convincing because the coupe matches the Marquis sedan's roofline better. And the rear of a Marquis sedan would be a ton of work to do right. I don't do body work, and the nose swap is mostly bolt-on sheetmetal, at least that you can see from the outside.

The owner of the car has a user account here, ToferCali. Haven't seen anything from him lately though.

I LOVE green interior. I had an uncle who had an '85 LTD wagon he bought new with this beautiful dark green cloth interior. I thought that was SUCH a nice car! Our car at the time was a '79 Dodge Aspen wagon with no frills and vinyl bench seats.

That is nice, must start looking for a Cougar with that color I would guess that would be the only Mercury to have it.
