Default VFN Fiberglass dash finally going in....sort of

I'm in the process of installing a fiberglass dash in my 86 and what a PITA! I knew that I would have to fabricate mounts and all, but I never figured that it could be that difficult to do. Keeping it level, and centered is fun, to say the least. When it's done, it will look good....hopefully. Will post pics soon.

I had no choice. My other one caught on fire.

Just got my dash back from the painter. I chose black with a satin clear, and they did some pin striping for free. I've gotta trim for the column a little more, but overall, I'm very pleased with the outcome.

Very nice looking. Are you wiring it up so that if you ever need to remove it you can just unplug the gauges? Are you putting anything else back in the dash? radio? heater controls? etc?
Do you use the car primarily for racing or street as well?
Would like to see pictures of the rest of the car.

That looks nice, how sturdy does it feel?

Yes, I'm gonna wire it so the gauges can be removed without removing the whole dash. Nothing else going in this dash, except for an air/fuel ratio gauge. No HVAC or radio. The car will be limited street. It has all the lights, and turn signals, but no wipers. I'm gonna post more pics of the interior, and car, when I'm done. The car is in pieces right now, and not very photogenic..lol

It's very sturdy. I have it mounted with four dzus fasteners, two per side, and this thing doesn't move at all. Very solid

After doing some more measuring, and trimming, I realized that I'm gonna have to remove all my gauges, cut the cluster area out to make room for the column, and then mount the gauges in a sheet metal plate that will be pop riveted in. Instead of painting this insert, I'm gonna cover it with a peel n' stick carbon fiber. Should look good. In hindsight, I wish I had spent more time making sure my steering column was gonna clear the dash, before I had it painted, but oh well...

Racer, that looks awesome. Where did you get those harness connectors from? Are they factory style?

My chassis wiring "Wizard", Troy Baum owner of Race Wires is doing the wiring on my MDMonster Project. He could make you a harness like mine or just let him know what you need. Any questions just contact him at : tbaum50windstream.net

Lookin good so far. Is this a race car application. Wondering if it can be made to resemble a stock dash.

It would be difficult to make it look like the stock one. It is for a racecar, but it is street-able.

I gotta admit that it really does look good! The pin striping was a very nice "old school" touch...
