    Default rear vibration

Took the 86 out on the highway and noticed a vibration in the rear starting around 40 mph and up. Let off the gas and it stayed for a couple seconds and then went away with foot off the gas. Checked the ujoints and they are fine. I just put this rear end in last fall but it is used and I have no idea who owned it before me. Only thing I did besides gaskets was axle seals and axle shaft bearings. Yoke is tight.

Any clean spots on drive shaft where a weight got knocked off? Rears don't usually cause vibration and when they start to go they make noise at any speed. Only other thing I can think of is a bent axle but that would make vibration at any speed.

Is the vibration dampener still on the rear, and tight?

Might sound foolish, but have you checked the balance on the tires?

Had a similar experiance several years ago on a co workers 89 Mustang GT. It turned out that the 4 bolts attatching the driveshaft to the pinion yoke had become loose, and the rear U Joint flange was wobbling around.

Has the car been lowered? If so, your pinion angle is off, that would cause what you are describing. Also, worn axles/axle bearings wouldcause the same.
