Some progress. Motor is together, and sitting in the car. I need to mount it to the trans, and bolt everything else down.

When I started with this block I had dreams of BIG power. Looking for every last bit of block strength I did a half fill of the block. I have not had any issues with the car running hot. I have heard some saying that a filled block could put more heat into the motors oil. So, I figured I would use an Explorer oil cooler that I had sitting a shelf. The power steering bracket and water pump is from a 94-95 5.0 mustang, and the alternator/idler/tensioner bracket and timing cover are from an Explorer. Looks like belt alignment will be very nice, although the Explorer alternator bracket has to be spaced out 3/8". I get the oil cooler, a nice accessory bracket setup, and extra clearance in the front of the motor with this setup, for minimal cash.

Lots of progress, motor is in the car, turbo is mounted and plumbed in, hot and cold side done.

    Air intake;

Need to make a box for the air filter, that the outside air to connect to.

Interior shot. I am not happy with the aluminum line connecting the NACA duct to the 3" pipe that goes into the trunk. It may change if I find a better options.

I have taken it for a test drive. The first burn out was effortless.

I got my air box done today. Here are some pics of it.

The pieces painted and the heat shield applied.

Before I put on the air filter.

Air filter installed and the cover put on, closing up the box.

Drivers side outside air to the box, from the rear.

Next I need to install the quarter louvers, inside rear trim panels, and install and seal up the NACA scoops. After that I need to make a steel firewall. I am going to use the NHRA rules for rear mounted fuel cells for a guidelines for material thickness. Then I can finish up the T-top install and get the interior in.

    Jess

Edit. I should add that there is a 3" hole in the bottom of the box for additional air(from under the car), and to drain out any water that the NACA scoops may collect.

I'm confused. You mounted the turbocharger in the trunk? The length of compressor discharge piping will increase turbo lag (more volume to pressurize). And by the time the exhaust gets to the turbine, the gas will be cooler and have less energy. Maybe these factors are not enough to make a big difference.

The hot side pipes were sized so as to keep lag at a minimum, they were also heat wrapped. Plus with 393 cubic inches boost lag should not be an issue.

New rims. Hopefully I can get some paint on it this summer. All the different colors is starting to bug me.

I will be picking up some 16 gauge steel to go under the rear seat back tomorrow. It should make for a good heat/noise shield and also help slow things down if anything goes wrong with the turbo. Then the rear seat and passenger seat will go in.

Little update. I got the fiberglass work done to the Cobra r wing. I had to change the shape so it would fit the contour of the trunk lid better, it was off a bunch. While doing this I added much larger mounting hardware. They had two tiny screws on each side. I now have two 3/8" bolts and one of the original fasteners moved forward on each side. Just a little body filler and paint left.

I took the t-tops out and took my kids out for a spin a week or so back. I think I can honestly say my daughter enjoyed herself.

I got kinda sidetracked messing with my other mustang. I blacked out the wheels, I like it so much next time I get tires I will have the rims powdercoated. I tink it looks good, even when the car is dirty.

Got a little ink with the car. Photo is from a local newspaper that stopped by our club's weekly car cruise.

Finally have put the body work on hold for a fuel injection computer change. The stock ECU Moates Quarterhorse combo is going to be replaced with a Megesquirt II. I am sorting through the wiring now. Hopefully I will get to tuning it in the next week or two.

    I'll second that.

Just wondering, why not go with the MS3X?

Also how do you plan on mounting those LS style coils? This is something I've been looking into.

I got all the stuff as a package deal. I don't plan to use the LS coils right now. Going to use my TFI distributor and Crane Hi-6. I am hoping that the MS2 will do what I want without being too complicated. I have to say so far I am kinda overwhelmed with the MS. Sooo much info out there, sorting out just what I need has taken a while. But, I am slowly chipping away at it.

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday. IT'S ALIVE! After some software stumbles I got the Megasquirt up and running. Just after a little bit of fiddling with it and some time with the "Auto-tune" function, it is running as good or better than it was with the Quarterhorse/A9l combo. Took it for a spin and gave her a little boost, it felt great. I am sure that the air temp being only 45 degrees helped a bit.

Here is a little clip of the Tunerstudio doing a little "Auto-tune", it is a beautiful thing.

Still have not got any paint work done, but getting the MS done was a great personal victory for me. Everything computer related tends to break my balls on a regular basis.

I should add that my Lc-1 wideband O2 took a poo on me. I can't program the analog outputs so I had to wire the 0-5v signal to my MS to do some tuning. That leaves my O2 gauge on my dash nonfunctional. I have to send the Lc-1 back to Innovate for repairs. This close to winter it is not a big deal I guess.

Got the Lc-1 back from Innovate. Free of charge even though the one year warranty was up, kudos to Innovate for standing behind their product. I bought a set of 80 pound injectors, that should cover any amount of power I may make in the future.

I tried to get the car insured through Hagerty. With the level of mods it has they wanted me to get a policy for $30K coverage. Not exactly going to save any cash that way.

The red car is mini tubed. I replaced the rear frame rails from above the axle back with 2 x 3" box tubing. They go straight back, so I get more tire room than the average mini tub. Stock style fuel tank no longer fits if you do it this way, so it has a fuel cell now.

The motor is a 10.5:1 460, ported with larger valves stock D3 heads, BIG Lunati solid cam, Weiand tunnel ram(ported) with two 750 Carters. built C-4 with brake, 4800 stall UCC converter, 9" rear, ladder bars, 3.50 gears(got some 4.10s in a box), 8 point bar, MSD programmable ignition 6530, M+H 390/45r15 drag radials, Billet Specialties rims, 15 x 4" and 15 x 12". long tube headers to 3" H-pipe, 3" Dynomak bullets, and 3" tailpipes. I think that is about all of it.
