Cool! Is the car wearing paint now?
Cale
Car not wearing paint yet. Waiting for little warmer weather even though it's in a heated garage.
I'm surprised to see this level of effort being put into 87 spindles. I am certain there are advantages compared to the popular 94-95 spindle swap onto foxes. I'm curious about what the advantages are - a pro/con if you will.
My knowledge of why 87's is very limited. I barely even considered it at all before I went SN95. This has me curious.
With SN95 - Yes I had problems getting negative camber with my narrow 86 K member. (solved by camber bolts) Yes it changed my track width slightly, but a wider width gives better handling as it improves the center of gravity. (It's only slightly wider) Also I wanted the revised wheel bearing/hub/ rotor design instead of the fox era front bearing design because they are smoother after multiple hard brake applications. (Also the 87-93 hats are very tall and limit wheel selection even after a 5 lug conversion). Also the improvements made to Ackermann steering geometry were important to me - albeit it takes some doing with camber bolts and strut positioning and sway bar link tension to make 1994 "tribar" 17x8 rims with 245/45/17's clear without rubbing horribly at lock on an 86 2.5 turn rack. Mine just barely touches and the car turns way sharper than it ever did before.

Reason for going to the '87 up spindles is they work. My car is a street/strip leaning more strip though. As for attention to detail, we didn't want to short our selfs since everything else is top level. I really like your comments which also made alot of sense.
Thanks
I forgot to mention the drawback of added bump steer compared to stock when looking at SN95 spindles vs 79-93. Same battle as when adding caster/camber plates - those take away around 1/2"-3/4" droop. Might help with launches at the strip if you're getting too much weight transfer.
The SN95 bump problem is combatted with 'X2' balljoints since they are taller and drop the frontend around1/2" but if you run caster/camber plates you may still need a bump steer kit.
I ended up with X2's, plates, and a bump steer kit to get mine under control without needing an insanely tall washer stack or offset rack bushings.
I've toyed with the idea of installing plates upside down up inside the strut towers on a drag car but have never tried it. It would increase front suspension droop around 1-1/4". A throw back to the days of balljoint extensions muscle car era drag cars ran.

I just read this thread from the beginning...
Wow, what a difference!
'78 Fairmont with 4 doors and 8 cylinders.
'92 LX convertible with 2 doors and 4 cylinders.
I really enjoy seeing and hearing about the stuff everyone builds. Thanks for sharing! Those willwoods look nicer than my SN95 style parts.
Decided to have the front bumper filled in where the FORD emblem was. Also, I am very happy with just how flat my panels are. My friend who is doing the work said:
I am gonna get 1 last coat of polyester primer on it today which should be the last. That leaves me with the hatch and rear bumper to do.

Cool - I like the filled oval. I've done a lot of different drawings playing with how to put a pony in that opening and make it look factory.
Ahhhhh, Bob Pitard 92 Mustang Vert Burnt Orange....what a sensational choice. Dynamic, and better on a hard edged four eye than an Aero.
Like that car, you don't need eye candy hangin' offa that. Well done. 12 out of ten.

Can't wait until she is all together and Wet Sanded and Buffed!
Looks really good, like the color. I've followed your build since MAMAF days.
Purdy!
