    Default 79-86 Interior Mods!

I'm trying to think of ways to mae my interior feel a bit less cheap. I hate how cheap and plastic the a pillars look and I was considering doing them, the headliner, and visors in suede. Maybe also adding some sort of overhead console with map lights from a Mark VII or something.

Anybody on here do any interior mods that they'd like to share?! Id love to see them!

The pillars are metal, not plastic. Maybe the color is the problem for you. What color is yours?

I haven't changed anything like you are talking about, but I did swap in some nice cloth lit sunvisors out of a '95 Mustang, and replaced the dome light with one out of the same car with map lights built in. The mounting points are the same!

Anyway, I bought some vinyl for my poker table project at a fabric store. it's cheap! Maybe you could get some and just wrap the stuff you don't like the way it looks. All you do is glue it on. Really easy.

The color isn't my issue, it's a factory black bucket seat sunroof car. My problem is just how much plastic is everywhere. I was hoping there would be a few people (like 69Clark etc) who have done some innovative things in their interiors that made them more appealing visually as well as more useful. Your sun visors and dome light are what I mean.

Some ideas I've had for a long, long time but havent bothered to do include: more lighting under the dash that works with the dome light, overhead console out of something, upgraded visors and dome light, etc.

You can kinda see the sunvisors in this one, and the domelight is pretty clear. That was before I swapped it for a black one though. I also put headliner fabric from JoAnn Fabrics in there. I didn't care to find the exact stuff, and I think this looks better.

I have that same material, I liked it too. It's pretty thick and padded IIRC. Your interior looks good, I especially like how you have the newer style seats in front but had them done to match the stock rear seat. Looks very clean.

What year seats are those? I have a set of '96 GT Leather seats in my Zephyr but they dont look all that great and need replacing. Id love to do exactly what you've done so my backseat still looks like it belongs. What are those seats out of and what covers did you buy from TMI?

If you have the GT seats you can use the kit from TMI to make your seats look like the SVO's with new foam and covers or you can make them look like the 03/04 Cobra seats with new foam and covers. Here is a link http://www.tmiproducts.com/mustang/1...-included.html

Essentially the SVO and GT seats are the same frame, but different foam and the adjustable inflatable lumbar on the SVO's in addition to the small headrests. The TMI SVO foam will fit your GT seats and then you can have either the SVO style upholstery or the 03/04 Cobra style upholstery to go over the foam. Of course they offer matching rear seat upholstery, but there is no new foam just the covers.

The e brake cover as well as custom shifter covers can be found at Redline Goods. http://www.redlinegoods.com/Mustang7986shiftboot.php

    Good Luck!

    Thanks for the information Trey!

Is the material for the shifter boot and e-brake cover leather or vinyl? How is the quality? Does it feel substantial? Looks real nice in the pictures. The red stitching is a nice touch for those of us with rid piping on the seats.

Dang! I really like the look of those SVO seats. Too bad it would be next to impossible to find a set in red, good condition and for sale.

The svo seats only came in grey. What you can do is take a set of regular GT seats, add the SVO seat foam, then get them upholstered in a red leather/cloth/vinyl. You could get a set of actual SVO seats reupholstered in red as well, but the GT seats will be much easier to find.
    Cheers!

I made a shift boot after an auto to manual swap for my no console 83 using an 86 gt boot and an f150 trim ring.

Planning on using an overhead console from an 80's ranger or bronco and moving the current dome light rearwards.
