Default My newly purchased Turbo Coupe

It's been a while since I've been on this site but I figured you guys would appreciate my new purchase. It's a 1988 T-Bird TC 5 spd with only 88K miles. I had no intention of buying a TC, I just wanted a little econobox to go back ans forth to work (my truck was killing me with gas). As I was searching, I found out one of my co-workers was thinking of selling his TC that has been in his wife's family since new. To make a long story short, I purchased the TC for only $800. A simple tune up made this thing run like a champ. I'm not sure what my long term plans are for the TC, but for right now I'm just going to enjoy driving it.

The pic makes it look in better shape than it actually is. There is some rust on the pass side 1/4 panel and some on the drivers side fender and some on the bottom of both doors. Overall it is a decent car. My '68 Mustang will be getting bodywork and paint before this does.

I'll get some interior shots as soon as I clean it up a bit. The interior is in good shape though other than the arm rest on the drivers side door panel is broke.

I'll let you know as soon as I empty this tank. I'm assuming it's getting 20-25 mpg's which is better than my 12-14 mpgs with my truck. lol!

Oh yea. It needs a clutch in the worst way. I have yet to really enjoy this because the clutch starts to slip after the turbo hit 5 psi of boost. I'm hoping to get that taken care of next week.

That is correct but I would like to fix it up over time and keep it as a collectible........and maybe do some slight mods to the motor but not much. For now it's just gonna be a decent DD.

All it needs is a bean can muffler and an aluminum wing... maybe a chrome racing stripe?

That looks like a really nice car. Clay bar and buff it out in the spring, I'm sure she would look great after that.

WOW, did you ever score on that one!!!

If you keep your foot out of the boost it should get near thirty or even more on the highway.
Mine has 218,000 miles on it & still gets near thirty to the gallon if I don't spool it up much.

Good looking car, congrats and good luck with it. My SVO gets low to mid 20's with mainly around town / slow speed {<45MPH} driving. I haven't measured highway mileage in a long time.....

Keeping my foot out of it has been very hard in the week I've owned this. I can't wait until I get the new clutch installed so I can see how this thing really runs. Right now it slips at high boost.

I always had a soft spot for the TC's too. I still can't believe I scored this thing. Too bad my wife won't let me occupy her space in the garage to park it and my space is occupied by my 1968 Mustang. Time to build another garage. lol!!

Even if it needs some work, at the price you paid you can afford to put some money into it. I really like the Turbo Coupes.
