Default What 3.5 speakers are you using?

I had an old set of 3.5 kicker dash speakers from my drag car and figured I'd install them in my 82 but they are to tall and hit the dash ducts before sitting flush.

I'm having trouble finding online a high watt aftermarket speakers for the dash that are shallow enough to bolt in and clear the dash pad above.

    Any suggestions ???

Im using polk audios in the dash. Careful use of a razor knife and a dremel tool to clear the tweeter without showing any sign of modification from the outside. I only had to remove maybe 1/8 in of material from the dash pad to clear it. But i also have 6x9s in the back and a 10in sub. No hiding that lol.

I have the 3.5 JLs, they fit and sound good. There was a thread about this not too long ago and I remember a lot of folks had pioneers. I have a pioneer deck and rear speakers, but opted to spend a little more for the front because so much of the sound is dependent on those small speakers.

I've got Kicker 3.5" in my Capri. Had, as I removed the sound system. They fit just fine.

Weird, must not be the same kickers I have, mine are to tall and hit the a/c duct before seating in the dash

You asked about a speaker that fits, it was mentioned there was a Pioneer, I found it and linked it, if it was of no help, sorry it wasn't helpful to you.

I have Infinity Kappa speakers in mine with bass blocker filters

I didn't do any cutting, but I slightly massaged the area under the magnets.

It's a tight fit, the dash lays right on top of the speaker grilles.

I installed the same Infinity Speakers in my 83 RS.
As pacefever says a little massaging underneath goes a long way, and these speakers really sound great!

I am still running the Pioneer Pioneer TS-A878's 1.5yrs later and they sound great...as great as a 3.5" dash speaker can sound with the stock deck. The small 6" powered Bazooka bass tube in the trunk of my vert is really what made the difference. Just enough low sounds to even out all the highs coming out of the 4 speakers, without any modifications.

These are the ones I bought, Jacks Stereo had them at the same price, so I bought them "local". They fit without any massaging of anything, the only thing you have to be careful of, the top of the speaker protrudes a little. I had a very old and cracked dash pad, and it finished breaking apart the speaker grilles.

Anyone know where I can find the center dash speaker? I will be replacing all 3 dash speakers soon. So I'll get the Pioneer TS-A878 set. Any suggestions for the center one though?

I think the center grille opening is for an AM Mono radio, or the factory amplifier to get cooling. Take some measurements, see what fits

Just FYI, I searched crutchfield and Pioneer for the A878s and found no results. Discontinued?

Thanks guys to all of you for all the useful info on the speakers. I might just do a little massaging to the a/c ducts and get some infintys or polks and go all out like I want.

    Again thanks guys

Do you happen to have an idea of exactly which series or a p/n? I've always had a thing for infinity even in my alot younger stereo days

That spot was for the premium sound amp. You need an amp to run more than four speakers. Cars with multiple speakers usually have satellite speakers, which is a regular dual cone speaker like a mid with a divorced tweeter that is in a different spot like the a pilar but they still count as one speaker. Thts my plan fir the front.
