Let's be honest, you could EASILY put that kind of money into the drivetrain/suspension, paint, etc. on these cars(or any car for that matter) to bring it to the level you desire. And that's where the value would be. Sellers like this guy don't seem to understand that idea. It 'could' be worth that much, but not in that condition.

Here's another one! Sure it looks good in the pics, and may even have the 22,000 original miles (I'd guess it probably rolled over though). But $5K for a 200ci I-6? I mean you could get a clean SN95 GT for that.

Very good point. I wouldn't consider my car worth squat right now because I don't have the suspension sorted out.

That red car is a joke. I live in the area though, so I may have to meet up with him so that I can bitch slap him.

Nice car, I'd offer him $2k at best.

I've seen that red Futura in person and it is 22K original. It's exceptionally clean and the interior and trunk still have that new car smell. As for the $5K asking price, it might be worth it to a guy looking for a new red on red Futura. But not me.

You couldn't replicate a body that clean for $5k.... Not even considering drivetrain/interior.

    Supply & demand.
If 22k Futuras were as plentiful as SN-GTs, they'd be cheap too.
    I doubt you'd get a 22k mile GT either.

I know that. Still wouldn't offer him any more than that. Like it or not, to the collector car community it's just a Fairmont, and they'll never be worth much.

That much money really assumes the buyer intends to drive it as is. I would not buy ANY Fairmont with the intention of driving it as is. Nor would I an early Fox Mustang. They were just too dang slow! I drove my car with the 6 for a short while (all along intending to yank it), and it was just not safe for merging onto freeways and such! We live in a world where you average everyday sedan has at least 250hp, and most highways have limits above 60 mph! I paid $2500 for my car, and I would not pay a cent more for a Fairmont. MAYBE if I found a Jade Green wagon in great shape. MAYBE.

950 seemed reasonable until they mentioned the accident.

All I can say is GLWS in Southern Cal. They'd get 1K if they fix the headlights and turn signals and slap in a junkyard radiator then turn it in for Voluntary Early Vehicle Retirement.

Damage doesn't look too bad. Does anyone else think it's HILARIOUS they had the 6 rebuilt? for $1600? I bought my parts car for about a third that much. EFI 5.0L (with almost triple the horsepower), better trans, better rear, better suspension, better seats... The things people don't know...

If that were a 2-door it would probably end up in my driveway. I'd be kinda curious how it
came to have that '80+ front bumper though...

Agreed. I paid $1500 for my current fairmont and the only place I drove it with the 200 was home from CT to MI. The thing struggled to run 75 to keep up with the flow of traffic. It didn't win any prizes for mileage either. My car drives better and gets better mileage with the turbo 302/4R70W combo than it ever did with the 200/C-4.

    Here's a special one. Only weighs 2400#, despite having a 302 with cast iron heads, A/C, a non-gutted interior, and a 9" rear!

2000.00 seems fair. it has 351 heads with the street boss intake. If the rest of the mechanicals are as described its a deal.

Must be one of those factory lightweight models with aluminum fenders, glass hood, trunk and doors and titanium brake rotors...

if someone is building a nice car in great shape it may be worth it. 5k for a fairmont would be a stretch to me. the nicer the car is when you start the nicer it is when it is finished. would you buy a $500 67 mustang to build a show car or a $5000 rust free shell to start with?

Regardless of receipts, if he's looking for a car for the wife and you walk up with any amount of cash. I bet his wife would be putting a lot of pressure on him to sell

i'm not interested in it at all. i saw it searching for 8.8 parts for my car and was like wtf is an 81 mercury street rod? sorry but i don't see him getting anywhere close to 10 for it, especially when anyone looking for one of these specifically can't find it because he failed to provide the most basic piece of information anyone with half a brain cell includes in a car for sale ad.
