    Default just bought a 55 cj5. 350 chev has issues

    I just got a 55 jeep cj5. Has chevy running gear. (Dana 44s and four speed) it recently started backfiring out of the intake on one cylinder. I backed the timing off. Cleaned the carb. Didn't help. The lifters also are noisy so I pulled the valve cover on the pass. Side because that's the side its backfiring from and found that only one rocker is getting oil. The furthest forward one was shooting oil. Sound like a bad lifter? I pulled one spark plug at a time and it made no difference on the backfiring. Anyone know what's going on? Im pulling the intake tonight because im swapping on a four barrel anyway. I also have a 500 mile shortblock I could rob parts from or swap in if need be.

    sound like a burnt valve but it chevy and they never run right

    was in 3rd gear, right foot to the floor and Cones where flying!

    Haha amen to that. Id like to swap in an efi 302. I have one but id need a trans and transfer case. Then id have to tear it all down and I don't want to do that yet.

    sounds like the start of a bad cam,
    stock 00 explorer 5.0 with 120k,comp XE274HR cam Edelbrock preformer air,fms shorty headers,x pipe and 40 series,under drive pullies, fresh t-5,king cobra 10.5 clutch,Hurst short throw shifter,fms alumin drive shaft, bbk frame conectors, 8.8 4;10 , MM camber caster plates, MM XD ADJ lower control arms

    Atleast its easy to swap out. Hopefully I find the issue tonight

    A lifter was completely ground down so I'm ordering an rv cam and lifters in the morning.

    Be sure to run a high zinc content oil with the new cam or you it will see the same fate again

    Also, remember all of that metal from the ground down lifter went somewhere---
