Not the first drive of the season, but was nice to get the SVO out for a quick spin this afternoon.

    Looking good Joe!

Still a little early for me but really close! I'd love to see a 20°C day to enjoy but it hasn't happened yet!

I drove the SVO to work earlier this week. My co-worker had his mid-80's Porsche 944 parked next to my car.
This was the best picture I could get since the sun was directly behind both cars.
Hope to get more miles on the SVO in 2021.

Looking good Joe! Nice to get it out for a drive I am sure! Hopefully you buried yourself in the seat a few times!

So I took the week between Xmas and New Year's off. Spent a few hours each day in the garage on the SVO.

It was time to fix the driver's side floor board. One of the previous owners used plastic filler then covered it with fiberglass mat. Which just wicked the water and made the area worse over time. I knew this was getting soft over time and the repair has been "on the list", so I finally put it in the garage post Christmas to start these repairs. So I pulled the entire interior out and started to cut out the bad areas:

    More removal:

Next I cleaned up the rest of the crappy metal and prep'd for patch panels:

I then used Eastwood's rust converter / primer on the exposed metal:

    First patch panel started:

What I used for the patch panels (original hood from my 82 GT):

Trimming of this first panel is complete, test fitted in the car. Got all the holes for plug welds ready to go:

Drivers side is done with welding / grinding.....

Getting this wrapped up. Sealed underneath all the seams (no pics).
And put on a very heavy coat of shiny black paint:

Waiting on the fresh black paint to fully dry/cure. Then I'll re-install the carpet and clean up the interior (lots of dust)....

Other items on the to-do list while it's parked in the main garage include:
    > replace the rear end pinion seal
    > replace the trans output seal (this is a new leak.... )
    > check the U-joints
    > change the engine oil
    > fix the padding on the driver's seat lower bolster

Great work. I hope your weather is a little nicer than mine. It’s been approximately-35 the last two weeks.

Nice work . I would have never guessed the floor was in that shape based on the condition of the outside. Car looks really nice. Is the paint all original?

It was actually pretty decent last week, only need to use the heater a bit to take off the chill. Last few days was another story so I've been in the basement on the driver's seat repair.

No, I ended up repainting most of the car when my wife backed into it several years ago. But the rest of the car is largely rust free.
Like I said previously, a former owner took short cuts with this repair and that made this specific area worse over time.

More items off the winter to-do list. First was the rear pinion seal. Was leaking for a while now.

New seal installed, all buttoned up:

Had to make my own seal driving tool, this thing is 3" diameter:

When I started the floor repair, I noticed that the trans output seal was also leaking.
Got that one replaced today as well:

And did an oil change while the SVO is up on jack stands. No pics of that....

Ouch....that was some serious rust! Great job and nice to see it's gone.

Really makes me appreciate rust free 84 SVO from NY! Rust free and NY, don't see those two words used together very often.

With that amount of miles the trans rear seal leaking was probably partially due to the driveshaft snout wandering around. Time to input end of the driveshaft and the bushing in the trans.

Great work, mine will sit this summer and I’ll get back to it this winter. Is it just me or are pace car owners SVO owners as well? What gives?
