Easiest and most definite way to know for sure is to pop the intake off and look. Being an 85 block, I would think it would be roller capable. As for the bosses for the spider being threaded, IDK. Friends have picked up engines from Crown Vics and Town Cars from the late 80's, and even though equipped with flat tappet cams, they were roller blocks with the bosses for the spider threaded. If you are gonna swap the cam, the intake is gonna have to come off anyways. Guess it depends on if you can have the car sitting apart or not...

ok got the lifters and cam out and the new one swaped in . now I have not gotten there yet but the rockers were tourqued but my haynes book says some of the early v8s had to set valve clearance i am assuming this not to be the case with hydraulic roller tappets . I tried finding TQ spec in the book and could not anyone know what it is?

also what thread is the bosses in the block for the spider I need to get some bolts for that. thanks

ok update car is up and running much better then before will run a steady 1500 rpm will not idle under that for long and then dies out. I suspect fuel pressure still could be an issue might have to by a tester. it could also be injectors as I know nothing of there history. also have to set timing maybe saturday.

ok couple of questions and findings. 1st is the mustang harmonic balancer different then the f150? I assume so as the timing mark and the pointer dont even come close to lining up . no matter how much messing around I do.

second I put vacum on the EGR and the car runs so much better. everything seems to be jiving now.

third fuel level was/is low so I think the little bit of surging i have left is do to that so I have to get some fuel.

4th could not help myself to it for quick 400 ft spin in front of the house from driveway to driveway. it does rolling burns outs really easily so I assume it is running pretty well. I will keep fin tuning it but I need to get going on the body work to get this painted before fall.

    1981 a later = 50oz.
    1980 and earlier = 28oz.
Car, or truck would be the same i believe. If the timing marks are not lining up then maybe the outer ring on the balancer spun.
