Can you run a Duraspark box without the ballast resistor if you use a TFI/EEC IV coil? Reading posts online, some say the ballast resistor is only there so the old style (Cylindrical) coil doesn't overheat, while others claim the Duraspark box itself needs the ballast resistor present as well.
The reason I ask is I have an 86 Capri that had EEC-IV (So no ballast resistor in the harness) and I got rid of the computer system and went to a Duraspark distributor. I kept the EEC-IV type coil. I am currently using a rigged up GM HEI module to run the ignition, but it would be nice if I could use a Duraspark igntion box instead for a better look and fit.
