    Default rear defroster knob removal?

Anyone know the secret to removing the rear defroster knob off of the switch stalk, gently without breaking it? This knob appears to have a light in the center of it. I got the other knobs off by pushing in on the internal clip while pulling the knob off the stalk. But this one attaches differently? (1982 Mustang)

Welcome to FEP. Sorry, I'm no help. I have a '79. Mine is a non-lighted knob. The light is below the "On/Off" wording.

That style just slides off of the shaft. May have to wiggle it to get it free,
but there is no clip used on the lighted knob style.

The metal clip in the knob grabs the plastic. You can pull it straight off but it may break a bit off the clear plastic off. Wiggling it may be better, dunno, those things are a PITA to get off.

If the plastic tip does break, the new knob or old knob can be reused. It will sit just a bit closer to the dash controls.

I don't know how it happened but mine broke off recently; flush at the back of the knob.

Is the suggestion maybe that the plastic portion can be pushed out of the middle of the knob and slid back on the shaft? That would be great! I was thinking I'd be looking for a new complete control.
