What is the secret to remove the rear hatch (window) trim without destroying it?

set of the plastic trim tools to pry up with. work it very slowly and in small sections. when you go to reinstall the trim i suggest using new clips. they will hold much tighter than trying to re use the old clips.
last two i've done i used these clips from NPD. does front and back.

ya, you do have to be very careful. they will bend easy. once you get the first one popped loose you should be able to work it along is small sections with out too much of an issue.

they make a special tool to take them off ....u can pick one up from Orileys..kinda looks like a seal puller

I have had the best luck using a door panel removal tool for getting the window trim off. The trim is 3 seperate pieces, the straight bottom, and the 2 sides that wrap around and meet in the middle of the top.
For the rear window, I like to start at the bottom corner on the driver's side. If you look closely at the outer edge of the trim, you will see section where the trim has a notch. That is where the clips are located. Find the one there near the bottom corner. Carefully insert the door panel tool or a small pry bar (the heavy duty plastic ones can work sometimes too) and then push down on the tool towards the hatch. This will pop the trim off the clip. Now move up the trim to the next clip and repeat. Do this all the way around the rear window. When all the trim has been released from the clips, then you can slide the 3 seperate pieces off each other and remove.

No I actually use this.
Not what it is designed for, but the rounded edges and lack of sharp corners seems to help keep from scratching the paint.

Thanks guys for the tips. I have the tool Trey has, but will look for the "correct" tool on my way home from work. Four of my clips aren't holding the trip secure so I want to remove the trim and replace the clips that I have from another stang.

I replaced about half of my clips. A previous owner used the clips that are for the front windshield so that it why my trim on the rear glass was loose.
