Thread: Front springs

    Default Front springs

Are front spring interchangeable from 86 to 87 V8 cars? I have a set of lowering springs for my 86 I don't want anymore, and a set of factory springs from an 87-93 V8 car. The seem way to big (tall) to fit, the diameter looks the same.

    Thanks my 4 eyed gurus!

Yes, they will interchange. The OEM springs are a lot taller than your lowering springs. You will need a spring compressor to install the OEM springs.

    Good Luck!

Thanks!, I was thinking of cutting exactly 1 coil off of them to lower a touch. Any thoughts?

That is what I did for years when I was either too cheap or poor to buy lowering springs. It will harshen up the ride a bit, but nothing terrible IMHO.

Usually 1 full coil on the front is enough to get a much better ride height without slamming the car. I have done the same in the back with similiar results, but since the rear is so much easier to swap out the springs, you might put the springs in stock and double check your rear ride height before cutting them. Sometimes depending on the spings, 1/2 coil can be plenty.

    Good Luck!
