Default Was This TRX ever used on a Mustang?

I've seen these wheels before but never associated them as TRX or on a Mustang

They're not factory. "Cheviot" was a wheel manufacturer back in the day - google didn't turn up much info about them but I do remember the name from back then.

I remember Michelin outlets offering wheels for the TRX tires. They were the mfg of the tires, afterall, and I'm sure wanted to sell as many of the tires as they were able. I don't remember the aftermarket wheels as I didn't pay much attention at the time. I thought it was foolish to buy wheels and tires that limited your options to such a narrow offering and they were expensive to replace. Ford just should have offered 15" wheels with the appearance of the TRX wheels and been done with it!!

    Bingo!

Michelin attempted to make the TRX wheels more available to the public by providing wheels that would work with their tires. I looked into buying these back in '81 since the wheels were cheaper than used TRX wheels at the wrecking yard and a set with tires were less than many of the other aftermarket sets available at the time. They were a popular upgrade for VW Bugs in my area.

I never bought them since I couldn't save up enough money on my high school budget. Looking back, that ended up being a good thing.

Chevoit wheels were made in Salisbury South Australia in the early 80's, named after the road the Factory was located in, Chevoit Rd, how imaginative.

Ford Australia fitted the metric TRX package as an option to the 1982 Fairlane but it wasn't popular and died quickly.

These metric wheels were probably initially made for this Fairlane but in five lug and then four lug with the hope of tapping into the Mustang market.

    Cheers from Australia.
