Default Finally found an 85 GT

After a long search I bought the car I found 6 months ago. It is a one owner car with 71000 orig miles. Twinvipers helped me confirm that with a carfax (thanks Jeff) The owner had all of the original paperwork, invoice, order sheet, window sticker, all books and tags and the first 3 years of service records from the Ford dealer. Everything is stock on it except for the wires and dist cap.
The carb needed a cleaning but after some carb cleaner it runs like new, very tight and solid on the highway. Drives straight and has lots of power. The temp gauge and driving lights don't work. It was "super seal" undercoated at the dealer so the underneath is solid. It had a couple of rust bubbles on the inside bottom of the driver's door. I dealt with that today.
The only real problem is the hood and driver's fender. The paint has cracked and needs to be repainted but for what I paid for it I am very happy.

Sweet! My '83 GT was "Super Sealed"...still has the little window sticker. My '85 was done by Zeibart back in the day. I know most people hate seeing undercoating on the undercarriage or engine bay, but that little "dealer add" treatment back then saved a lot of these cars

BTW...everything about that car (engine bay, seats, guage cluster, passenger door panel) looks FANTASTIC for 71k miles. Not that it is high mileage...but obvioulsly VERY well taken care of over the years.

Yeah, Fitchburg, mass. I kept in touch with the owner over the winter and decided to go down and pick it up. I was disappointed with the paint but he dropped his price by $1800 so I think I did alright. Funny thing is after I committed to buying the car another member on here PMed me about an 85 t top he is painting charcoal. So I might be making another trip across the border. An 85 charcoal t top is what I set out looking for.

I think he got $1800 off the list price for the paint issues. Great looking 85!

Yeah, $1800 off due to paint issues. It's sad but if the owner had protected the paint this would fetch $7000+ as a one owner car. Now I'm trying to decide whether to paint it silver or charcoal???

My vote is to keep it the original color. That's too nice of an example to mess with (in my opinion), but it's your car so do what makes you happy. Either way it will look great so you really can't go wrong.
    Cheers!

    Gotta love a 85 GT!

Sweet looking ride! Congratulations on the new addition.

My vote is keep it original color. I love silver 85/86 GT's! With new paint it will be fantastic!

Thanks, I'm leaning toward keeping it silver. The paint guy said the silver would hide any imperfections and dents.

Your are a Lucky "MOFO"! Car looks great. I wish I had been more patient in my search for a '85. But jump to quick to get the '86GT. I have always like the last year of the carb. motor mustang. Great Find and Enjoy it.
