Default Why are my 79 rubber hood bumper slots different?

I have been trying to figure out why the 4 rubber hood bumpers that go in the
fenders on my 79 are different than the ones being sold? The difference is the
part that goes into the fender slots. My slots are twice as wide as the bumper
feet that I've ordered and tried so far. Mainly, I just want to get bumpers that
will work with the larger slots in my original fenders....

I noticed that on Varn82's 79' Capri as well, I think you are stuck with finding some used, I don't think they repro those and I don't know if that was a 79 only thing or not.

Rats, I figured it might be a one year only deal.

What are the odds of finding good used 79 hood bumpers?

How many you need? I parted a 79 years ago, I can see if I have any of them in my "parts box"

I'm fairly certain the 79's used the wedge ones:

It wouldn't hurt to try them since they are so inexpensive.

Let us know. There are a couple other variants of these. Even if trimming works and the hood touches the bumpers properly, it's better than nothing.

I know this is an old thread but has anyone located the correct bumper that fits? One side of my vehicle has the keyhole slot while the other is twice as wide and doesn't accept any of the 79-93 reproduction bumpers currently offered for sale.

Hi yes, the 79 uses the split wedge like this

    http://www2.cougarpartscatalog.com/66o-16758setof4.html

    in 1980 they changed.

Look at this photo. This is from a 300 mile Pace Car see how they are split in the upper right hand corner

These are for 80-93, will not work for the 79

    These will

I tried the later ones (80-93 - the first one pictured) on my 79 Cobra, they will not fit. The slot they go in is to big.

    Hope this helps. Good luck

Quick update on the hood bumpers I ordered from West Coast Classic Cougar for my 1979 Mustang.
The good news is they fit the slot on my fender, however they were a little wider than the original bumpers and needed to be modified so that my hood would close properly. They'll do for now, however if anyone comes across the correct bumper (as pictured on the left) please share your source with the rest of the class.

Those are different. I think I called Green a Sales and they hooked me up with some.

Try that. Sorry if I mislead you. I was thinking they were similar, but I guess not.

I bought you a set from Green Sales. Just pay the shipping. PM me.

    Take care

Hello all. I have an update. The part # is c7az16758a Green Sales has only one. It is pictured below.

    Dennis-carpenter.com has them at $6.50 a piece.

I was however to find what it looks like a correct reproduction here.

    http://www.northwesternford.co.nz/ho...st-p-1436.html

    For $19.90 for a set of 4

I ordered both to compare them. Will let you know when I get them.

    Thanks
