    Default Crushed Subframes

I have a set of subframe connectors i'm going to have welded in. How does everyone go about straightening these? Hole in the floor pan with a punch and a hammer?

The sub frame connectors weld to the sides of the sub frame, you probably won't have to mess with pulling down that little part.

Dang, Looks like somebody got all jack happy with it. The only way i know of would be to cut the floor out on the top of the rail. Then hammer it back down using a jack and long wood block to support the bottom of the rail when hammering the center back into shape. Might require a little heat also.

I don't know about that. Most I've seen weld on top, that way you are welding to both sides of the subframe.

Depends on the brand/quality of the frame connectors.

Some, like Steeda, have brackets that wrap the frame rails.

They should work in this situation... Plus I think they are the best.

The ones i bought were the MM XL's. It does look like there's a gap between the connector and the subframe on the inner side where its to be welded, with it mocked up. Maybe a few smacks with a hammer it'll bring it in close enough to not matter.

Just did this a few weeks ago with my steedas. I drilled holes in the plate and using bolts straigtend the area to be welded. Once welded I then removed the bolts. Not perfect but was able to weld good.

Ah, I gotcha. I was picturing someone welding one side to the frame rail and the other to the floor pan. I'd have to look at the Steeda design.

I would cut that section out and weld in some new metal. Or just go over it with a patch prior to subframe. People have destroyed framerails getting jackhappy and it sucks because I have seen some of the nicest foxes with f'd up frame rails because of this.

You can also cut the floor pan above the frame rails. Flatten out and reshape the frame rail from the the top AND bottom then weld back in the small thin floor pan section you removed to access the frame rail.

Makes for a nice repair if that is your goal.

If you have access to a stud puller, you could pull the dents out with out having to cut into anything.

Nice slide hammer with a couple of studs welded to. Your not going all original show car I assume with putting on the subframe connectors. So any major blemishes could be taken care of and covered up by the added bracing.

Good luck and have fun with it
