    Default 1986 svo 1d

Going to keep a little running log here of my 86. Car is really in super shape but there are always a few little things to do to keep old cars looking tip top.

Got my little drivability issue fixed the day after I got it. Vacuum lines going to turbo were crossed up causing octane switch to work opposite and bad stumble at higher boost. With proper hose routing and good fuel the car is now running great.

    List of things to do

    -Super Detail (Done)
    -Window Tint (Done)
-PDR the Few Dings on the car (Done)
    -Re-Fuzzy Dash Panels (Done)
-Strip Polish and Paint Wheels (Done)
-Repaint front and rear bumper trim (Done)
    -Install headlight and foglight relays
-Paint Bi-wing Trim Color (Maybe, haven't decided for sure)
-3" Downpipe and midpipe into 2.5" Magnaflows and tails (Done)
    -Cold air/K&N filter kit (Done)
    -Bypass Valve (Done)
    -Turbo Coupe Intercooler (Done)
    -Manual Boost Control
    -High Capacity Fuel Pump (Done)
-Paint Underside of Fuel Tank (Done)
    -Mirror Polish Wheels
    -H&R Sport Springs (Done)
    -Netted Halos (Done)

I'm sure there will be more to add to the list.

Few pictures of how the car looked after I got it and gave it a partial detail

After I buffed out all of the charcoal trim, stripped, polished and painted holes of the wheels, tinted the car and refuzzied the dash.

Little side by side of the before and after on the re-fuzzy. The after looks lighter in photos than in person. The before doesn't look as bad in photos as it did. What was left of the fuzzy was really chalky and the passenger side was scratched up pretty good.

Installed a Walbro 255lph pump and also painted the plastic tank cover.

Car had a bit of a stumble under high boost at high rpm. Put a fuel pressure gauge on it which was showing ok at idle but only building about 10psi under boost and then falling off. Suspected a weak pump so ordered up the high capacity.

Easy swap which completely eliminated my stumble. Car runs smooth as silk now.

Got my T-bird intercooler drilled and tapped for the bypass kit. Also cleaned it up and polished the top flange. Should look pretty nice once I get it in.

Installed the Tcoupe intercooler, Forced4 cold air intake and bypass valve. I still need to put a little piece of rubber trim across the top edge of the heat shield to finish it off.

Looks good. I ran a TC intercooler for a bit, but went back to stock. Wasn't happy with the way the TC intercooler sat / fit in my SVO's engine bay. Sort of crocked to the passenger side.....

Your TC IC seems to sit mostly flat.

Mine is almost flat. Just has a very slight angle to it. You have to get a longer hose from the turbo to intercooler to get it to sit flat. The one on it now is about 2-3" longer than the stock one.

Biggest reason I swapped the intercooler is I didn't want to drill and tap the SVO cooler for the bypass kit. I don't really think there is any advantage to the T bird cooler. Its slightly larger but the hole in the hood is still the same size. As the car sits now I can turn it back to completely stock in about an hour.

Suspension wasn't on my list of items for this car but all of the SVOs I have seen with a bit of drop look so nice getting rid of the tire to fender gap. Decided on doing a set of H&R Sports which should give me about 1.5" drop maybe a bit less with new poly spring isolators. The springs look nice in the box... can't wait to get them in the car.

Got my lowering springs installed. Took me 4:45 minutes which I was very please with. Not too bad a job.

Super happy with the results. Love the stance. Ride quality is very close to stock maybe just a bit firmer.

That is a nice stance! Which springs did you use?

Merry Christmas to me. Got a set of netted halos installed. Quick photo from my phone. Better photos later when I can get the car outside.

So much better than the padded logs which will get boxed up and put in storage.

Installed a Stinger 3" downpipe, midpipe into dual 2.5" Magnaflows and LMR stainless tailpipes. Installation was pretty straightforward but required some wrestling and bloody knuckles. The LMR tailpipes are really nice pieces with a great fit. They look so much better than the aluminized steel stock replacements that were on there.

Sounds really nice but didn't get a chance to drive it yet due to rain. Probably won't get a test drive for a couple of days.
