Thanks for the info. In my attempt at research on this, I came across this article as well and located a copy of the mag on eBay. I read somewhere that there was another article with this car, so I continue my quest! :-)

Thanks escogt! I found photos of this car out on the Internet as well. The scoop on this car appears to be the Fairmont Turbo scoop, which I was considering using (if I could find one!!) because it goes with the shape of the hood and it is not very high. I'm looking to get a Fairmont Futura sport coupe and do this conversion because Ford should have made an LTD coupe! I'll try to strike up a conversation with Mike. Thanks again!!

Not the same car as what the OP is requesting.
Stripe is different. Hood is different. Stance is different. Interior is different.

    Over all... different car.

Yes it does but its not a plug and play. Ive read about alot of Fairmonts with LTD front clips on them and there is a bit to getting the fenders to line up but the biggest issue is the cowl height. On the Fairmont its lower nears to outboard ends and the LTD cowl needs to be grafted in to line up with the LTD fenders and hood.

That stinks. Wish Mike would answer and put his experience of doing this to his car. Mike where you

I talked to Mike about a year ago - I too made the mistake of thinking that was his car - he said it was the inspiration for his. I do have a few PMs from him spelling out some of the details.

My Durango had a minor front end collision years ago and was shoddily repaired. I did this quick photoshop of that car to see what it might look like as a Durango. I *LOVE* it and am 98% sure I am gonna do it to mine.

Edit: quote from a PM from Mike: no they have different aprons (above the frame rails)? and core support. basicly i had to remove from the shock tower forward and replace it with the ltd stuff. also the top of the cowl will need to be customized or replaced since the fenders are taller (no drop in hood of an ltd) so the ltd cowl is flat all the way across.

Thanks for all the input and info, guys! This will help greatly in making sure I get all the pieces I need from the car I'll part out. Does anyone know if there are dimensional differences between the front aprons on the LTD and the Fox Mustang?

Durango, I like the idea of a Durango done up with the LTD frontend. That photo looks awesome!! I can remember when the Futura sport coupes came out. It was about the same time as Ford discontinued the Ranchero and I thought the sport coupe would make a good basis for a replacement with its two door configuration and roof pillars. Of course, a couple of years later, the Durango appeared!

Thanks again for all the input!!

I've been doing my homework on the cowl issue and see what is being referred to. You'll have to forgive me, guys, but I may take a while to pick up on the subtle differences between the F/Z and the LTD/Marquis, as I have spent little time with an F/Z and quite a bit with the LTD/Marquis. In looking at it, it doesn't appear it would take too much modification to the cowl to accomodate the LTD fender in the cowl area. Figuring out the aprons is going to have to wait until I have the Futura in my possession and can check it out.

That's great! The article I have shows Ray Cvetkovic as the buddy of the owner, James Rooney, that helped James build the car.

I have another idea for my taillights, but I won't know if it'll work until I get the car. Unfortunately, that's probably about a month away! :-( Not enough time and too many obligations right this moment! I just changed my avatar to the car I'm getting.
