Question ranger brake backing plates on a fox?

will the backing plates from a ranger rear end fit the fox rear end ?
the reason I ask is my brother has a rear end from a ranger. (not sure of the year right now)
he was going to haul it off for scrap until I told him I wanted one of the axles,
I may just take the whole rear end.
any way I got thinking if it has 10 inch backing plates could I bolt them to my 7.5 and then upgrade to ten inch brakes?
    just wondering .

I heard that they will fit the Fox rear end. I was going to buy an Aerostar 8.8" rear for the 4.10's and the brakes, and a few members here told me everything will fit on my '89 8.8" Fox axle.
Just double check the brake size on the Ranger. Every Ranger I had came with the 9" drums. The Aerostars had the 10" drums.

The Mazda B-series trucks and the Navajo are just rebadged Fords.

Not all of them. I've got a '92 B2600 and it's all Mazda.

dont know the crossover point, but the later model B3000, B4000 are the Ranger equivalent, possibly B2500 as well. Im thinking late 90's early 2000's..

IIRC they will but are offset and you will need to use the ranger drums/shoes to work as well.

Jeff or Chuck will chime in but I believe so.

Bingo. It was not til '93 when the Ranger became rounded that the US Mazda B series trucks became rebadged rangers, along with the Explorer Sport also becoming the Navejo. IIRC the Mazda trucks are B2200 and B2600

Your F-C friendly years of Ranger are 83-92. '93 up rotors are larger on the front, not sure what Ford did with the rear. Also be aware of 2wd vs 4wd. I am unsure if Ford changed the axle widths between these models.

Easy Identifiers, if its a 'box' Ranger you should be good to go.
    '83-'88

    '89-'92

And for axles you can only use one axle from the '83-'92 Ranger LH and...

    '86-'97 Aerostar RH.

I personally would not put a used axle that has been used on the left on the right and vice versa. The silly design of the semi floating axle put quite a bit of strain on the bearing surface. Being these are truck/van axles they may well be worn out. Make sure the bearing surfaces are free from defects.

I would recommend just buying the Ford axle kit, or a kit from Alloy USA ~$250 axles/bearings/seals if you just want the 5 lug conversion without the need for uber strong stock style axles.

that's a lot of great info. thanks very much.

    one more question.
is it possible to upgrade to ten inch rear breaks and keep the four lug?

of course I would upgrade the front to 87 breaks.

I like my ten holes and don't really want to part with them

Yeop, Fairmont, LTD wagons had 10" rear drums. Some sedans did as well.
