Do you know what the ELECTRIC and NLR on the BT stand for?

Don't know what ELECTRIC means. It was shortened to EL in mid '84.

I think ELECTRIC means it's power windows, power door locks, remote hatch/trunk popper.

Casper, the 83 RS I gave to my brother has ELECTRIC on the buck tag, and it's got all three of those. My 84 RS does not have that on the buck tag, and it's manual windows, door locks, and no hatch pop, just the fuel door button.

You might be able to correlate that in your database, Mick.

I thought the same, and you may be close, but this car appears to have manual windows. Now we do know that there is DF and there is a rear defrost light on the instrument panel, so perhaps the DF means that.

Maybe the ELECTRIC -X stands for electric release for the trunk/hatch? Mick do you know of any cars that have ELECTRIC or EL and have manual locks/windows but still have the trunk release option?

I really like how this Capri is optioned. Very interesting.

    The # on the BT is a 5 not a 3
it's got power locks, fuel door release, power trunk release, rear defrost, and pb.
I'm liking this car even more

Of the 630 '81-'86 Dearborn-built Capri and Mustang buck tags that I have in the database, 188 of them have ELECTRIC (through '84½), 199 of them have EL ('84½ and later) and 243 have neither. When ELECTRIC changed to EL, code V (visibility/light group) seems to have been dropped.

DL = power door locks (manual windows)
PW = power windows (manual door locks)
WD = power windows and power door locks
none of the above = manual windows and manual door locks

    V = visibility/light group
    no V (through '84½) = no visibility/light group

Of the 188 tags that have ELECTRIC...
    5 have DL only
    23 have PW only
    47 have WD only

    15 have DL and V
    19 have PW and V
    22 have WD and V

    18 have V only

39 have none of the above

Of the 199 tags that have EL...
    10 have DL
    37 have PW
    128 have WD

24 have none of the above

Of the 243 tags that have neither ELECTRIC nor EL...
10 have DL only (all 84½ and later)
14 have PW only (all are '86)
32 have WD only (one from '83, the rest are '85 and '86)

    37 have V only

Where would you go or who could you talk to, that could identify something like that?

Dearborn tags are pretty much the same from '81 through '87 so the best source as to what these unknown codes mean would be the people that worked on the assembly line at Dearborn within that time period, and were looking right at these tags while they were building the cars.

I'd almost think too that certain employees may have only known what a specific code meant, whereas some others may have had more insight (perhaps line supervisors etc)?

Bingo bingo, your the winner Ed... line workers looked for the specific code they had to but who you would really want to find were the people in the scheduling department where the buck tags were made along with the V.I.N plates and window stickers.

Back in the early 80's my dad knew the plant manager from Dearborn... who knows where he is now

Found a metal tag under the seat today(its 3 3/8 by 5/8 with a bolt hole on the left). I don't know what its from, but I'm pretty sure its from the car. And a paper tag fell off the drivers seat as I was taking it out. I think the seat upholstery is original.

    The metal tag reads-
    *upside down triangle*E4ZR-7003-DJA2533
    13-52-065 13691

    The seat tag reads-
    *upside down triangle*E4ZB-6160005-AE7UB L205A
    LSI M(96799) TAN, C, DRIVER.
    *upside down* AUG 20 1983

If you want pics of what I'm talking about I can get some pictures
And I there was no build sheet under the rear seat or carpet (but I did find a partial roll of tape that factory workers used to tape build sheets)
I will look behind the rear quarter plastics tomorrow or when I have time

The metal tag you found under the seat is a trans ID tag from a T-5, probably from the original in your RS. Can you post an image of the that tag? I will decode it below.

The paper seat tag is indeed from the original upholstery. (LSI = Lear Seigler Inc.) That company also did the "P" code Articulated Sport seating.

    Transmission Tag
    E4ZR-7003-DA = 1984 standard duty (SD) T-5 transmission
    J2533 = built September 10, 1983 on 3rd shift (J = month, 253 = day, 3 = shift)
    13-52-065 = Borg Warner ID # -- 1984 Capri/Mustang SD T-5
13691 = Borg Warner serial number

Made correction to trans tag decode. The "J" is actually part of the build date. I thought it was odd that the engineering number ended in DJA. I've always seen it as DA.
