Default Ford Ltd Brougham 1983 Engine Change

heres my problem: my wife is getting an 86 TA. im a bit jealous

i bought my first car a couple years ago (said ford 3.8 V6 2 barrel ) and would like to upgrade the engine., id like to drop a 460,351, or 302 in it. ive found a few continentals with a 460 that are well priced (around 800 for the whole car). im lookin for a ford 460 but no one seems to want to come off of one. crates may be worth it, but i dont really wanna pay that much.

But any way i dont think i can just "drop it in." should i go for a 351 or a 302. id like to keep my transmission (ford C5) but i dont think that it would happen. what other information i provide to make the best educated guess as to the least time consuming way to go about it... pics, measurements, part numbers, ect.

any positive input will be considered and greatly appreciated.

    thanks, the frog

I had a 1978 Continental 460/C6 wedged in the convertible. It's a tight fit. You'll at least need motor mounts and a 4" hood if carb'd. I never got the radiator sizing figured out with what my dad wanted to put in it. All the other 460 Foxes I've seen have motor plates too. Then there's headers, which I think are also available from some manufacturers (just like the motor mounts).

If you're looking to keep it automatic, it's easier to swap the engine/trans together.

i had a 460 powered fairmont driven daily from 1994 to 2006,the 460 and c6 are a very easy bolt in with a few motor sports conversion pieces,i used stock 77 full size car manifolds and had no clearance issues,if you can afford the fuel i would go with th 460

i would honestly get a 351w engine and poke it to 408ci.

you'll still get the power and torque you need and its in a lighter package
