Default Is this a 1983 mustang GLX steering wheel?

I'm going to be getting a momo steering wheel and need to know what year my steering column is. I got the steering column off a guy for $40 and he didn't have a clue on what it was out of besides the fact is was earlier than 1984.

    Here is a picture:

My guess is that it's from a 1983 GLX Mustang,

    thanks!!

That is the correct wheel for an 83 GLX. It it also the same wheel used on the Ghia/GLX models for 1979-82 as well.

I think what the key here that they need to know is that this wheel uses splines all the way around (sort of like an axle) rather than having the flat sides like 84 and up had. But to answer, yes that looks like an 82-83 wheel.

The steering shaft change happened in 1984. Wheels from 1984+ are not backwards compatible for 79-83 models.

As for someone saying that the picture provided does not match wheels for 79-83, I suggest that you go to the FEP Library and look at the original sales brochures - you'll find that I'm right.

I used to have a 1980 Ghia that was 100 percent original and it had the exact same steering wheel in it.

The wheel pictured is correct for '83, but not for '79-'82.

The wheel is an 83 wheel but the question is the shaft, does it have the horn on the turn signal, if not its not an 83 shaft...

I thought the splined column changed over to D column in '83, not '84.

1984 my friend. Not arguing, just saying I learned that lesson early on way back in the '80s.

Could have sworn my '83 GT (built July 1983) had a D-column when I swapped to an aftermarket wheel.

I certainly wouldn't put it past Ford to do that but July is pretty early to be using next year parts. Anything is possible though.

    This would work then right?

I said 83 not 79-82 due to the location of the cruise buttons. The 79-82 had them on the upper spokes. The rest of the wheel looks the same adn should work fine in an earlier car.

84 horn went to the steering wheel so the shaft and wheel are 83.. I got 2 of them in my garage and one on my 83 car.. bet I am right.

I didn't know about the change in location for the cruise control. Come to think of it, I remember my 80 having the cruise on the upper spokes as you said. That would explain why I've been seeing 4-spoke wheels on eBay with the cruise in different locations.

Steering wheel attachment style change happened during the '83 model run. I've seen '83s with both forms of attachment. I know for a fact the T-Birds used the newer style as well in '83.
