Thanks for the update. I am not trying to get in your business or anything but you know when you buy a "rebuilt" starter or alternator from ANYWHERE, all they do is clean it and paint it and replace whatever part failed? It's not like they replace all the moving parts or anything.
Why not just take it apart yourself and replace what's wrong and go on your way? It's the same thing. They actually used to spend a lot more time cleaning things up than they do now. I have pulled calipers, alternators etc. out of the box that looked like they had 100,000 miles on them. I bet you could repair both for $50.

Just my .02 is all. Good luck. There is a lot you can do while you wait for money to do other stuff. Most of the stuff that will make it look good is free to do and just labor on your part.

That was my original thought, but once I got it open there was alot of wear on the armature and I don't have the ability to turn it to smooth it out. I'm still thinking about the alternator, I just need to have the money available if they turn out to need more than I am able to do at home.

I just finished a compression test. 150, 40, 40, 40. Looks like a blown head gasket at the minimum. I guess I now know why it was parked.

Is that bad? LOL.....3 out of the 4 match, that's a good thing, right?

Sorry about your luck. I hear these are easy to put a head gasket on though. And a gasket is pretty cheap. You might get lucky and that's all it is. keep us informed.

I'm really not surprised it needs a head gasket. I figured there had to be a reason the PO quit driving the car. Seeing cyl4 with low compression has me a little more concerned. I didn't get the cross blow from cyl3 like I did when I checked 2 & 3. It's going to be a little while longer before I can get back to it. I need to get an engine in my 81 BM first.

Got an update on this one? It has been a while since anyone posted anything. I really like the fact that this 83 RS is getting some love. It would kill me to see my car in this condition.

No updates yet. Life keeps getting in the way. OK I did put brakes on the front so I could move it around and get it closer to my tools.
