    Default 3x5 dash speakers

Does anyone know where to get replacement dash speakers?

I have kenwood kfc-830g's in there, and one is blown. I googled it, ebay'd it and cant find it.

As far as I'm aware of, the dash speakers are 3.5" in diameter, not a 3x5. There are plenty of replacements for them, I am currently running a mid-grade Kicker set in my Capri.

I got Rockfords in my GT. I believe that I got them from Crutchfield. They sound good. Way better than stock.

I looked at replaced my 3.5" front speakers and found that not many will fit with the limited depth room. Crutchfield said that they do not have any to fit my 85GT vert. The Pioneer TS-A878 3.5" fit perfectly and sound great. They are about the thinnest 3.5" speakers available for a reasonable price.

FWIW, I bought Infinity Kappas off Amazon for mine. The difference between them and the Pioneers they replaced was completely night and day. Having quality speakers in the dash goes a long way in having great sounding tunes in these cars. For a while, when my stereo was still a work-in-progress, I just ran the Infinitys in the dash with a Infinity Basslink in the trunk and properly tuned that sounded pretty good too. Just not as loud as I wanted!

For another $10, you could have had some decent speakers. I paid $34 for my Kickers.

Yes, that is very true. I used the tool on SonicElectronix.com to find speakers to fit my application. I had no problems dropping the Kickers into place. Crutchfield.com has a similar application, and I think BestBuy.com does as well. They will list all brands and sizes that will fit.

Be careful with some of the 3.5's out there. They tend to be a little too deep for the front dash hull. You'll want to measure the space first or expect to be swapping speakers again.

Agreed, also because the stock speaker size is only 3.5 and it's the only speakers in the front, quality goes a long way. The JL's I put in were around $60, but I think it was money well spent. A much more expensive option is to add some custom door or kick panel speakers, but I didn't want to go that direction yet...maybe some future date.

Specifically, which speaker unit did you use to replace the dash units? Mine are sounding rather poor these days...

Well, you got me there, not sure. See the link below for the JL 3 1/2 inch speakers. Pretty pricy, but recomended by this high-end car audio shop near me, so I splurged and they do sound good. I dont think I spent that much last year (I thought I spent 60 or 70), but I think I got the C2s shown, so maybe they were on sale. Although, I did see on the website that JL does have another 3.5 speaker for 20 bucks less in the TL series.

I put Rockfords in mine, because that was what everyone was talking about in a different thread. It was said that they fit good and sounded good. I found that to not be the case. I feel that they are an 8th inch too tall and press against the dash pad, leaving a nipple. I also am dissappointed in the sound. I have Infinitiy's in the Camaro, and they sound twice as good. IMO, try to find some Infinity's that will fit that hole. I am disappointed in the Rockfords, and wouldn't put them in again. That's my .02, and no, I don't need change.

It looks like the JL's have foam surrounds which may not be the best for a dash application(dry rot).Something like the MTX's with rubber surrounds would be a better choice.

The first time I went with the kicker front speakers but didn't like the height of the tweeter. I found that with a little work it was possible to shorten the post and not hurt the sound quality. Here's what mint looked like before and after I shortened them. Now they fit great.

IVe got polk audio 3.5's in my dash, Im pretty happy with them, they fit right, arent to tall for the space and push up the dash pad like some, rubber surround and sound great. I have always had good luck with infinity as well though.
