    Question Original Mustang

My request is not entirely unusual, but I'm really serious about trying to find the '80 Notch that my mom bought new and sold four years later.

    I have the VIN.

    I have the original sticker
    .

I have the last license plate number.

Everything that I have tried has not worked and I'm just really frustrated.

I've gone to a number of DMVs and have gotten the same story from each of them. They all tell me that they are not allowed to give out any information.

I went to the dealership that sold it to her ---- and got another proverbial door shut in my face.

I asked a police friend of mine and he said they weren't allowed to look it up.

I even Googled the VIN. I figured it couldn't hurt.

    The car is a 1980 model ---- so it's pre-CARFAX.

I know where it was bought (the dealership).

I know when and where it was sold (year and town).

I can provide whatever information someone might need.

    Can anybody seriously help me?

Might be a very slim chance that I have it in the database. I have 15 1980 coupes, five Ghia and 10 base model.

I would run it through carfax...there is a member here that offered to do it free for guys like you, twinvipers is his user name. I know you mentioned it being pre carfax, but if it was involved in an accident it might be in the system.

Carfax is only for vehicles that have 17-character VINs (1981 and later).

I did a similar search for the 1980 Ghia that I traded in back in 1997 after finding the paperwork for it many years later. My search came up empty, so I talked to a friend of mine that worked at the DMV. He said that there was always the possiblity that the vehicle no longer existed if the dealer wholesaled the car out to a salvage yard or something like that.

I recently saw a Chevy TV commercial where a son located his dad's 1966 Impala that he'd sold many years before and it made me wish that I could find my mom's 1965 Mustang like that, but that search came up empty as well. Those pre-1981 VINs and the passage of time make those kind of searches to be rather problematic.

Good luck on your search Danny!

May I send the VIN to you?

To my knowledge, it was last registered in Jonesboro, Arkansas in 1984.

Thanks. I really want to find this car -- or at least find out what happened to it.

Any old pictures of what it once looked like? I frequent a few local mustang forums and craigslist here. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any 80's that come up for sale. Arkansas is my state's neighbor so it's likely it could have made it's way in to Texas.

    Absolutely ---- and THANKS!

The car is/was Light Chamois exterior and Caramel interior -- automatic -- 4-cylinder. Needless to say, someone else might have changed the color.

At the time, it had Keystone aftermarket deep-dish wire wheels on it. Another owner might have removed them. IDK.

Mom sold it to a student at Arkansas State University. She doesn't remember his name -- but does remember that he was of Asian decent.

I have only one coupe in the database painted 8W Chamois Glow, and it has a V8. Sorry I was of no help. Like I said, very slim chance.

    Well, thanks for trying.

It is really important for me to do whatever I can to try and find this car. My family doesn't really understand it. To mom, it was just a car she bought way back then ---- but it's different than that to me.

    Thanks again. I appreciate you.

    Good luck with the search.
Maybe we should start one thread that lists the picture of the car we are looking for, and all the information we have on it. (Vin, last known city/state, ect). I know there are many people looking for old cars. Just a thought....

Hey, I appreciate the idea ---- but I probably shouldn't have posted it anyway. I didn't mean to bother anybody about it. I just really wish that I could find this one car. It's just really important to me. Anyway, thanks.

Hope you find it Dan. I wanted to know what happened to my 79 Capri. I knew one of the last owners, but he had sold it. Well, a short time later, the new owner showed up on this site so I was able to see her again.

Thanks for the post, my friend -- but it probably won't ever happen. I just don't know where else or how else to go about looking for it. I just thought that I'd try.

Send me the VIN I can try autocheck for you.

AutoCheck, like Carfax, is only for 17-character (1981 and later) VINs. This car is a 1980 model.

I have the VIN and don't mind posting it here, unless there's a reason not to post it publicly.

Only reason would be your own. I don't get the reason for keeping VINs and license tags secret but people do.
