I've got about 8,000 songs on my iPod. The only thing that gets played in the Mustag are 80's! I used to DJ back then and I have all the vinyl remixes converted to digital. Best time of the summer is going for a cruise alone with the 80's tunes cranked. My favourites are Boston, Scorpions, April Wine, ZZ Top, Bad Company, Aerosmith, Billy Idol, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Clash, Foreigner, Toto Stevie Ray Vaughn....

    Default 8 track days

Anyone have any 8-Track tapes they want to get rid of? I wonder if I can convert my old LPs to an 8-Track tape to play in the car. I have to get the unit working first, but that's another story.
We did that in the 60's-70's before cassettes came into the mainstream.
    A 'recording party'.
Brand new albums fed into Akai 8 track tape recorder. 60 minute tapes. Took hours.
After many recording sessions, saved time by not worrying when the tape clicked to a new track in the middle of the song.

The recorders are still around. Fresh new blank tapes may be the challenge.
All of my old 8 tracks tapes do not play well if at all.
The music is still there, but the tape jams up.

gr79, those bring back some memories. I have Grandma's AM/FM stereo radio, phonograph, 8-track player console sitting in my garage. The radio still works, but the phonograph needs a needle. Haven't gotta clue if the 8-track player works.

Dude, I am all about playing 80's tunes in 80's cars but if you are not using a cassette deck or a boom box (bungie-corded to the front seat).. you arnt legit. Come-on, driving around in a fox body stang listening to tunes on a ipod? Thats not Rad at all

As a teen back in 1982, I was making noise in a 1979 Mustang equipped with a $49 Sanyo cassette deck and Sparkomatic speakers. I love 80's music and still listen to my old tunes.

    Very early 80's

    Armored Saint
    Riot
Infa-Riot (which became "INFAS" and disbanded in 84"
    Van Halen
    AC DC
    Kiss
    Cheap Trick

    Mid 80's

    Billy Idol
    Human League
    Dokken
    Black n Blue
    Kix

    Late 80s

    Def Leppard
    Scorpions
    Bryan Adams
    INXS

Today I still own my FlagShip Model GE Boombox and play cassettes regularly in the Garage. My 2000 model Pickup truck has a oem cassette deck and I listen to Sirrus Satellite 80's on channel 8 in the other cars.

Sparkomatic...did you say sparkomatic? Previous owner had put a Sparkomatic stereo and speakers in my car. (None of it worked.) Wasn't that a Radio Shack brand back in the day? AAHH, memories!

Default 8 track was the start

60's consoles were gold. Top lid access, built in everything.
Some had built in tv. When the tv quit in the 70's, were used as a portable tv stand.

Then there were small combo radio/8 track/record changer tabletop systems (no boom boxs yet).
Did not like loaning mint records to be dropped by a changer.

The front seat battery op am/fm portable radio common. Most had coat hanger antennas.
I learned how to change in dash radios. Had a Sanyo. Great radio. Quam, Utah, speakers were popular.

Have a Olson Electronics (was like a Radio Shack) home 8 track player.
Part of a small separate tuner and amp set, one of my first new home stereos. All work fine.
Early 70's bought a later version Lafayette 1500TA. Have it back box. One channel quit.
Late 70's, real deal Sony seperates for quad. Working fine. Have the boxes.

Late 60's, for 8 track recording and new album reviewing, we used a way better stereo system.
One in the neighborhood had a parent into more expensive stereos. Guess where we hung out.
Basement weekend get togethers with friends to review and record custom tapes for cruising.
Or tv movies if weather was not good.

Kix play's 90% of the time when I'm driving. Otherwise, it's WASP, Great White, White Lion, early Bon Jovi, or whatever hair music I have in the car at the time. 80's music all the way.

I'm in between age groups here - I'm 34. But I was really close to my (now 51) uncle growing up and acquired his taste for Maiden, Judas Priest, U2, The Cult, Living Color... and his taste for the five liter Mustang.

I have a pretty healthy collection of LP's from garage sales and I'm gonna hopefully convert some to mp3's in time for cruising season.

Every spring, I pull my '86 out of storage, check everything over, warm 'er up & put the insurance decal on. I pull out of the storage compound and begin the 1/2 hr journey home with the same tune every time: "Orion" from Metallicas 1986 album, Master of Puppets.
Then followed by their 1988 album "...and justice for all." Coincidentally I heard that album for the very first time in the back seat of that very car on the way home from the record store in September 1988. Also heard their "black album" for the first time, again in the same back seat, in August 1991.
I will be performing this yearly ritual again, this Sunday

Good choice. In my opinion Master was their peak. I really didn't like the direction of Justice...too thrashy, less rhythmic. The black album was pretty good, but a little too polished and didn't have the intensity of the earlier albums. I'd vote the cliff burton albums as there best-kill em all, ride the lightning, and of course, master of puppets. But anything Metallica is great for resurrecting a 5.0.

Default and the beat goes on

60-80's rock music was on the Cobra's car radio in its first 'life' 1980-1987.
Cassette tapes too. Still have them.
    Second life (back on the road in 2000 to current);
Whatever is on the radio. AM or FM. Traffic/news, tech talk, or multi genre 'rock' 50's-up.
Being older, have heard the same hit songs hundreds of times.
No more tapes or mp3. No time to create. Never had a cd player in cars.
Straight 1993 Ford Escort AM/FM DIN radio, amped up good, 8 Ford/JBL speakers. No sub.
Best mix and match sound system have ever did in a car since 1970. Fact, no brag.

And Justice For All is my favorite album by them. I like that one song bleeds to the next and they're all the same style. Unless you're close paying attention, it almost seems like your just listening to an over hour long recording of Metallica just going at it.

Any albums after it, I am okay with (but not St. Anger, it reminds me too much of those bands from the early 2000's who beat on dumpsters ). Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and And Justice For All, were the best.

Oh man, I lost my first post, but....If Everything Falls Apart was a Quality assurance album,

then Zen Arcade and Hüsker Dü.

was actually a stylized method of four corner idle tuning your 83 to 85 4-bbl Ford!

The advent of the PRMRC Parents Music Resource Council, and Frank Zappa, Dee Schneider and John Denver.

That was Justice For All for me....I never trusted the moral majority controlling what I listened to.

People love to sell "Sold Out" blitzkrieg to Metallica, just a soft target for the unthinking IMHO. Real rock was always underground...

For me, a Fox Mustang is like going back to a Telecaster or Esq after listing to a Strat...T twangin' 80's music that any American had the cat guts to strip down like Jennings, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Rocky Burnett...Andy Summers of The Police, and Isle-ers the Smiths, the Clash, Pretenders...

I grew up seeing US horsepower figures drop like flies in the frost...going from my favorite Boss 351 Mustangs, 351 Falcon GTHO's and Panteras with 330 to 350 hp net , and then, right when the Boss sings Born in the USA, well, 175 hp was enough to make 15's again.

80's Rock is like that people no longer afraid to strip down and just slam it with reality. The imagination? Well, that's the shock rockers and the screwin' with people that the Miss-fits and all the best hard rockers gave us.
