radio antenna question

Ok folks, simple but stupid question: Does the antenae mast on an 86 somehow unscrew out of the base?? I see that palce like Late model sell new masts but mine does not seem to unscrew out of the base. My mast is bent at a 90 degree angle like 12 inches from the top (grrrrr). I got it this way. I tried to bend it back but it seems like it is going to snap off before it bends back.

Yes, it unscrews.

I think it is something like a 10mm wrench. Part of the base has a hex head, just turn it with the wrench and it unscrews. I take mine on and off all the time so that I didn't have to put a hole in the car cover for it. (my car sits under the cover for months at a time)

Bill, yes as others have said, there is a spot at the base that will unscrew. pm sent.

Before you apply the wrench to your antenna, make sure to protect it by wrapping it with electrical tape. Otherwise the paint will chip.

Ok guys my antenae must be off something else as there is no hex at the bottom of the mast, its stainless and it spins but doesn't unscrew out of the base. Will have to post a pic later to verify .

If there is no hex at the base, then you probably have an aftermarket one that does not unscrew.
